Waiting on Wednesday: #2

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

I’ve mentioned this in my past two book tags, but I don’t care. I’m so excited I need to vocalise it as many times as I can. Also if you haven’t read Illuminae then 1) WHY? and 2) this might contain some spoilers!

Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

Hanna Donnelly is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik Malikov the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own surivival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.

me: [slips Amie, Jay & Knopf Doubleday $5]  release Gemina early

I’ve said numerous times that Illuminae is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. It has insane character development and it was so creative and unique. I am in love with everything about it AND WE GET TO EXPERIENCE IT AGAIN WITH GEMINA???

I’m going to miss having Kady as the MC but I’m super excited to meet new ones. I’m sure Hanna is going to be amazing and Jay Kristoff said Kady is still going to be featured a lot. PLUS HEIMDALL IS WHERE KADY’S FATHER WAS WORKING. Jay also said Hanna and Nik look like Kristen Bell and Bob Morely! SIGN ME THE HELL UP. I can not wait to see how creative this book is because there’s going to be a new document style which, and I quote Jay, “is going to BLOW YOUR GODDAMN MINDS“. I also hope we get to learn more about BeiTech. IM SO EXCITED.

The only bad thing is how far away the release date is. Ughhh. I know it’s going to be so totally worth it though.

What book are you most excited  for? Link me to your Waiting on Wednesday post if you have one!!

      1. Thanks! I hope so, too! I might have to get this one on audio cause I don’t really care for the format that the book is written in. I also had no idea that the series was going to be ‘companion’ novels. I thought the P.O.V would be from Kady the whole series but I like that we’re following a new character.

        1. Ooh, okay. I absolutely love the format. I think that’s because of my attention span though, haha. I found it a lot easier to stay focused because it was so different. Yeah, I didn’t know about the different characters either! It sounds like it’s going to be really interesting 🙂

  1. I cannot wait to get my hands on Gemina. Illuminae was one of my 2015 highlights. I just can’t get over how creative the narrative style is and the fact that it still sucked me into the story. I am really sad to see that Ezra and Kady won’t be our main characters but I’m excited to meet these new characters and see the role they play in this tale.

  2. I have to re-read Illuminae. I had an eARC that was disappointing because it lacked pictures. I know that it will be a 5 star book for me and I need to get on it soon because Gemina looks just as amazing! Awesome pick! 🙂

    1. Ooh it would have been so cool to have it as an ARC (well not the lack of pictures but haha ;)). I read it on my Kindle and the formatting was a bit weird it’s why I bought a physical copy. And because it’s really pretty and I’m all about those aesthetics haha.
