Like always I have no idea how many of these books I’ll get to. I love participating in readathons, but I kind of always fail at them 😅

All the challenge banners were made by Aentee.

Highly Illogical BehaviorHighly Illogical Behavior by John Corey Whaley

Sixteen-year-old Solomon is agoraphobic. He hasn’t left the house in three years, which is fine by him.

Ambitious Lisa desperately wants to get into the second-best psychology program for college (she’s being realistic). But is ambition alone enough to get her in?

Enter Lisa.

Determined to “fix” Sol, Lisa steps into his world, along with her charming boyfriend, Clark, and soon the three form an unexpected bond. But, as Lisa learns more about Sol and he and Clark grow closer and closer, the walls they’ve built around themselves start to collapse and their friendships threaten to do the same.

This book is centered around a MC with agoraphobia, which I also suffer from. It’s not as extreme as some cases because I can occasionally leave my house, but it affects my life every day and it makes simple things extremely hard. It’s caused me to not be able to study or work.  I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read this because sometimes MI rep in YA can be really hit or miss, but I’ve heard this has really good representation from lots of people that I trust, so I’m excited to read it!

When the Moon Was OursWhen the Moon was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore

To everyone who knows them, best friends Miel and Sam are as strange as they are inseparable. Roses grow out of Miel’s wrist, and rumors say that she spilled out of a water tower when she was five. Sam is known for the moons he paints and hangs in the trees, and for how little anyone knows about his life before he and his mother moved to town. But as odd as everyone considers Miel and Sam, even they stay away from the Bonner girls, four beautiful sisters rumored to be witches. Now they want the roses that grow from Miel’s skin, convinced that their scent can make anyone fall in love. And they’re willing to use every secret Miel has fought to protect to make sure she gives them up.

Ashamedly, I have only read one book with a transgender character and I really need to change that. I’ve heard so many amazing things about When the Moon was Ours and it’s magical realism which is probably one of my favourite genres ever.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the UniverseAristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by byBenjamin Alire Sáenz

Dante can swim. Ari can’t. Dante is articulate and self-assured. Ari has a hard time with words and suffers from self-doubt. Dante gets lost in poetry and art. Ari gets lost in thoughts of his older brother who is in prison. Dante is fair skinned. Ari’s features are much darker. It seems that a boy like Dante, with his open and unique perspective on life, would be the last person to break down the walls that Ari has built around himself.

But against all odds, when Ari and Dante meet, they develop a special bond that will teach them the most important truths of their lives, and help define the people they want to be. But there are big hurdles in their way, and only by believing in each other―and the power of their friendship―can Ari and Dante emerge stronger on the other side.

Every month since the start of the year I’ve told myself that I’m going to read this book …….. and I haven’t. I have absolutely no idea why because it sounds AMAZING and I’ve heard endless praise for it.

Of Fire and StarsOf Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst

Betrothed since childhood to the prince of Mynaria, Princess Dennaleia has always known what her future holds. Her marriage will seal the alliance between Mynaria and her homeland, protecting her people from other hostile lands. But Denna has a secret. She possesses an Affinity for fire—a dangerous gift for the future queen of a kingdom where magic is forbidden.

Now, Denna must learn the ways of her new home while trying to hide her growing magic. To make matters worse, she must learn to ride Mynaria’s formidable warhorses before her coronation—and her teacher is the person who intimidates her most, the prickly and unconventional Princess Amaranthine (called Mare), sister of her betrothed.

When a shocking assassination leaves the kingdom reeling, Mare and Denna reluctantly join forces to search for the culprit. As the two work together, each discovers there’s more to the other than she thought. Mare is surprised by Denna’s intelligence and bravery, while Denna is drawn to Mare’s independent streak. Soon their friendship is threatening to blossom into something more.

But with dangerous conflict brewing that makes the alliance more important than ever, acting on their feelings could be deadly. Forced to choose between their duty and their hearts, Mare and Denna must find a way to save their kingdoms—and each other.

I’ve been eagerly anticipating this one! There’s a F/F romance and Audrey identifies as LGBTQIA+. I’ve heard a few mixed things but I feel like a F/F relationship in a YA Fantasy is extremely rare so I’m still really excited to read it!!

Juliet Takes a BreathJuliet Takes A Breath

Juliet Milagros Palante is leaving the Bronx and headed to Portland, Oregon. She just came out to her family and isn’t sure if her mom will ever speak to her again. But Juliet has a plan, sort of, one that’s going to help her figure out this whole “Puerto Rican lesbian” thing. She’s interning with the author of her favorite book: Harlowe Brisbane, the ultimate authority on feminism, women’s bodies, and other gay-sounding stuff.

Will Juliet be able to figure out her life over the course of one magical summer? Is that even possible? Or is she running away from all the problems that seem too big to handle?

With more questions than answers, Juliet takes on Portland, Harlowe, and most importantly, herself.

I’ve been meaning to read this for ages too because I’ve heard so many wonderful things. It’s an #ownvoices book that features a lesbian woman of colour. I’ve seen people say that it’s really empowering towards women and has really good feminist vibes.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens AgendaSimon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing, will be compromised.

With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon’s junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met.

…Do I even need to say anything? I want to try and read this one this month so I might end up reading something else, but if not I definitely plan on reading it for this readathon!

More Happy Than NotMore Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera

In the months after his father’s suicide, it’s been tough for sixteen-year-old Aaron Soto to find happiness again—but he’s still gunning for it. With the support of his girlfriend Genevieve and his overworked mom, he’s slowly remembering what that might feel like. But grief and the smile-shaped scar on his wrist prevent him from forgetting completely.

When Genevieve leaves for a couple of weeks, Aaron spends all his time hanging out with this new guy, Thomas. Aaron’s crew notices, and they’re not exactly thrilled. But Aaron can’t deny the happiness Thomas brings or how Thomas makes him feel safe from himself, despite the tensions their friendship is stirring with his girlfriend and friends. Since Aaron can’t stay away from Thomas or turn off his newfound feelings for him, he considers turning to the Leteo Institute’s revolutionary memory-alteration procedure to straighten himself out, even if it means forgetting who he truly is.

Why does happiness have to be so hard?

This is a cheat because no one’s really specifically recommend this to me, but so many people who’s opinion I trust have said they’ve loved this book. I’ve been meaning to read it for so long. I’m actually in love with Adam Silvera so I need to read his book. I’ve heard this is gonna break my heart too so I can’t wait!!!

  1. OH Lauren this is SUCH a fantastic selection of books, I am thrilled for you to read every single one of these. I recently finished reading More Happy Than Not and YES it broke my heart a tiny bit, but what a great and very important story! I hope you will love it 🙂

  3. This is such a great TBR Lauren! I loved Highly Illogical Behavior but you’ve read my review haha I hope you enjoy it too. YES to Ari & Dante and Juliet Takes a Breath, both are so good and have great diverse representation. I also just ordered More Happy than Not yesterday so it’ll probably arrive this weekend and I can’t wait to get my heart crushed by that book :’) I don’t know if I’ll be joining the DAReadathon but I for sure will try to read more diverse books, it’s just that I tend to fail at read-a-thon in general hahaha and according to the quiz at Pottermore, my house is Slytherin 😛

    1. Thank you, Puput ♥ I’m so gad you enjoyed them! Your review is one of the few I saw that made me really want to read Highly Illogical Behavior! Haha, same here! Hopefully we both love it. Ahh, that’s okay. I totally get that readathons aren’t for everyone. And omg I would never have picked you as a Slytherin! That’s awesome haha.

      1. Yayyy so happy to be able to convince another reader to pick up my favorite book 😛 Hahaha I used to always strive for Gryffindor because all the awesome wizards are from there but honestly I’m a really ambitious and competitive person hahaha so a Slytherin I am 😛

  4. Oh wow, this sounds amazing! I think I might join too. Loved your choices! I’ve read a few of them and you are going to love them! Be prepared to cry during More Happy Than Not 😀

  5. I didn’t know you’re a Hufflepuff!! BADGER PRIDE!!

Ari and Dante is absolutely wonderful! You’re going to love it! Of Fire and Stars is on my TBR too, I hope I get to it soon. Good luck on your challenge! It sounds like fun, I might be participating too.

  6. Amazing TBR Lauren! Simon, Aristotle and Dante and More Happy Than Not are some of my all-time faves! I hope you’ll enjoy them! I’ll definitely be joining the readathon, but I still need to finalize my TBR. Also, I’m having a little Hogwarts House Identity Crisis, because I always thought I was Ravenclaw, but Pottermore officially sorted me in Hufflepuff, and that really fits too! But I’ll figure it out soon 🙂

    1. Thanks Lindsey! I’m so excited to read all of them!! Yay, I’m glad you’re participating too 😀 I can’t wait to see your TBR. Haha, oh no!! Pottermore keeps insisting that I’m a Gryffindor and I don’t understand why because I’m the exact opposite of that 😅 so I just continue being my true Hufflepuff self, haha. I can definitely see you in both those houses.

  7. If you only get to one of these books, PLEASE make it Aristotle & Dante. I cannot explain enough how amazing and beautiful and fantastic and wonderful that book is. It needs to be read by EVERYONE. More Happy Than Not was another great, yet heartbreaking read. I’ve heard of all of the other books you’ve mentioned and they are definitely on my radar, especially Of Fire and Stars. That cover though!!!

  8. Omg, I love your patronus!! haha Mine is a Nebelung cat, but I’d rather it was a sloth or an owl.

I love you TBR so much! Glad to see you’re finally going to read Ari & Dante. Let’s see if you actually get around to it. x) Oh, I didn’t know that Of Fire & Stars had a F/F relationship! That’s great! But I’ve also seen some mixed reviews on Twitter. Hope you like it.

Lauren, 6/7 of these books are explicitly LGBTQIA!!! I think Highly Illogical Behavior also has LGBTQ rep, but I don’t know much about it. It is shelved under on GLBT on Goodreads. Anyway, I approve of this TBR 1000%. 😀

    1. Haha! Well, technically my Patrnous from Pottermore is a Beagle (which I’m 100% okay with), but I feel like I’m a sloth in my soul so I just always go with that.

I’M GONNA READ IT!!!! Hopefully 😎. I didn’t either when I first read the blurb forever ago on GR. I wasn’t even going to add it to my TBR because I thought it was just another generic Fantasy, but then I reread it and was like “WAIT WHAT” and added it immediately, haha. I hope I enjoy it!!

Oh my god. I didn’t even realise 😅. And yeah, the MC in HIB identifies as gay (I think?). Thank youuu 😀

  9. I’m considering doing this readathon but like I’m not a huge Harry Potter person. But I love readathons and this is over my winter break. Plus diverse books. Still undecided. Great selection though!

  10. I love your choices so so much, most of these are on my TBR and the others I’m going to have to check out and then add to my TBR because they just sound so amazing! Sadly I’ve only read one from this list of amazingness but luckily it was such a gorgeous and amazing book and it is Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe! I really hope you love it and enjoy it and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on these! 🙂

  11. I didn’t know Of Fire and Stars was an Own Voices book! Omg, I’ve been anticipating that book forever and need to read it asap! So I might have to swap out my original choice for this one!! Great TBR! We do have a few of the same books on here. Hope you enjoy them all, if you get to them! I know I probably won’t be able to read all of them, but I’m sure gonna try. Lol. Good luck with the Readathon!
