Me: I don’t do TBRs!!!
Also me: [posts two TBR posts in a row]
ICYMI, The SimsAThon is a readathon that’s hosted by Kara @ bianca reads. It’s running from October 1st-31st and centres around The Sims 4. There’s challenges, points and a whole lotta fun! I’m lucky enough to be a co-host for this round with a bunch of other lovely people. This is Round 2 and we’re adding new challenges featured around the Outdoor Retreat Game Pack. You can see more in my announcement post here!
There is A LOT of books on my TBR and I know I’m not going to get to all of them. I always like giving myself overly ambitious TBRs though because I’m a huge mood reader so this makes me feel like I have more options? Plus, I find I do the most reading in October. I love reading all the spooky books! Even though Australia doesn’t have the same Fall atmosphere as the rest of the world I live vicariously through everyone else’s.
Hi, meet Sage and Salem. I made them a while ago, but figured this would be a perfect time to show them off (again). They’re going to help me (hopefully) read ALL the books this month.
CHOOSE A HOUSEHOLD — A book from late in a series || The Tyrant’s Tomb by Rick Riordan || I can’t wait to see how Rick makes us suffer with this book 🙃
BUY A HOUSE — A book set in our world || This Lie Will Kill You by Chelsea Pitcher || This seems like a (hopefully) fun, trashy thriller that I can get through quickly. It’s about a group of teens who go to an isolated mansion to play a game to try and win money but it turns out they’ve been lured there under false pretences by someone trying to uncover details about a murder that happened in the past.
RENOVATE — A retelling || Foul is Fair by Hannah Capin || Okay, wow I’m so excited to have an ARC and be able to read this? It’s a modern feminist re-imaging of Macbeth. This is what Goodreads says and I have CHILLS: “Foul is Fair is a bloody, thrilling revenge fantasy for the girls who have had enough. Golden boys beware: something wicked this way comes.”
MAKE A FRIEND — A book featuring friendship || Immoral Code by Lillian Clark || What defines friendship more than a group of people stealing money off a shitty rich guy so one of their friends can go to college?
BECOME A GHOST — A spooky book || The Haunted by Danielle Vega || I’m going to read this one at night to hopefully add to the spooky atmosphere.
REACH THE TOP OF YOUR CAREER — A series finale || The Merciless IV by Danielle Vega || The Merciless is my favourite YA Horror series and I can’t believe I haven’t read this yet? I’m pretty certain this is going to be the last book, but I wouldn’t be against Danielle Vega writing more 👀
EAT A COOKIE — A book under 200 pages || We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson || I’ve been meaning to read this book FOREVER. I’m going to make it a priority this month and then maybe try and watch the movie.
PAY BILLS — Your most recent purchase || The Disasters by M.K. England || MISFIT SPACE ADVENTURE! I bought this a while ago but it’s my most recent ‘physical’ book purchase so I’m counting it.
HAVE AN AFFAIR — A book featuring a breakup || These Witches Don’t Burn by Isabel Sterling || A girl who’s a witch has to team up with her ex-girlfriend to find out who’s performing a dark blood rituals after she gets accused. So excited for this one!!
MEET THE GRIM REAPER — A book featuring death || My Sister the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite || I started reading this, but never finished it. I’m really intrigued by the concept so hopefully I can finish it this month!
HAVE YOUR BIRTHDAY/AGE UP — An adult book || Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo || I’ve talked about this book in like every post I’ve made since I came back so.
CRIMINAL CAREER — A thriller || Lock Every Door by Riley Sager || I’m really hoping I enjoy this more than Final Girls. I’m keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏻!!
PURCHASE CAMPING EQUIPMENT — A book with an odd number of pages || Social Creature by Tara Isabella Burton || This should be a really quick read. I love books with pretentious characters and toxic friendships.
EXPLORE THE FOREST — An atmospheric book || Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall || What could be more atmospheric than a book about a haunted forest?
SING A SONG AROUND THE CAMPFIRE — A book in verse or poetry || Submerge by K.Y. Robinson || I enjoyed K.Y. Robinson’s previous poetry collection The Chaos of Longing so hopefully this will be a success too. Plus another quick read!
GAIN A HERBALISM SKILL — Pair a book with your favourite brew || The Babysitter’s Coven || I’m going to be pairing this with an iced coffee because it just seems perfect for the whole aesthetic of it.
