Life Updates & Book Hauls

Life Updates & Book Hauls

Me making my brief return to WordPress Dot Com

Hello, friends! As you know A LOT has been going on in my personal life and things are still all over the place. I have really missed blogging the past month though so I decided I wanted to try and at least get this update post up!

So…. What have I been doing since I’ve been gone? Mostly being band trash and taking advantage of currently living in Perth and going to as many shows as possible. Since the start of the year I’ve seen:

  • The Maine & Waterparks
  • We The Kings
  • The Faim (x4)
  • A bunch of local Australian bands
  • FALL OUT BOY !!!!!!

It has taken me 13 years to see Fall Out Boy because of nothing ever falling into place and to finally be able to was such an Experience. Finding their music was such a defining moment in my life. I owe so much to them. I even managed to hold Pete’s hand during Saturday (he was wearing a West Coast Eagles jumper during it! I peaked!). I managed to meet Waterparks, The Maine and We The Kings. Everyone was so wonderful. I’m especially crying over meeting Waterparks. I love Awsten so much and he gave me a pick!!! I was able to have a really good conversation with Otto after the show, too.

The Faim is a local Perth band and my weekends during Februrary were spent seeing them. I managed to meet really rad people at their shows. They are such great guys and it’s been awesome hanging out with them. They’re currently playing a bunch of shows and huge festivals like Reading & Leeds in the UK and I’m so proud of them but I miss them 😭😭

No photos of Fall Out Boy, sorry, because I was too busy living my best life in the mosh pit. I started about 10 rows back and by the end of the show I was at the barrier.

I managed to catch up with friends that I hadn’t spoken to for ages because of my anxiety. It was awesome finally feeling like I was ready to catch up with them. We went to a Japanese festival in the city and I basically just ate a heap of food 😂

I got around to getting a Perth library card and had like an actual breakdown over the library in the city because it was FIVE STORIES. I get this is probably normal for most people, but as someone who’s lived in a small town for all my life where the library is one floor in a small room it was overwhelming. I immediately forgot every book I’ve ever read or wanted to read.

I finally have a new phone too!! The iPhone 5C that I was using was like 5 years old, the home button didn’t work, it didn’t recognise when I touched the top third of the screen and it didn’t pick up my SIM card lmao. It took me like a week to decide between Apple and Samsung, but eventually I stuck with Apple because I’m TRASH and purchased an iPhone 7 Plus. I can’t stop buying covers for it. No, seriously. I have a problem. I bought my third one today. Ooops ???

IN NEWS MORE RELEVANT TO THIS BLOG I ATTENDED MY FIRST EVER BOOK EVENT!!! It was for Lifel1k3 by Jay Kristoff. As you all know The Illuminae Files series that he co-wrote with Amie Kaufman is one of the main reasons I got back into reading and found/joined this community so being able to tell him that was pretty awesome!! Pls ignore how awful I look in the photo.

I unfortunately didn’t have my copies of Illuminae, Gemina or Nevernight on me because they were back home but I did manage to get these ones signed which was pretty rad!!!!

Even though I haven’t been reading many books this year, unfortunately for my bank account I haven’t stopped buying them….

Wreck by Fleur Ferris // The Astonishing Colour of After by Emily X.R Pan (thanks to Hachette Australia) // The Diviners by Libba Bray // Small Spaces by Sarah Epstein

Mostly Void, Partially Stars by Joseph Fink & Jeffrey Cranor // The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli // Lifel1k3 by Jay Kristoff // Truthwitch by Susan Dennard (legit don’t know when I’ll read this but it was only $5 at Kmart and I couldn’t resist)

The Carrie Diaries by by Candace Bushnell (this was a super good quality hardcover that I found in an op shop for $5) // The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater // Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff // Obsidio by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

The Burning Maze by Rick Riordan // The Shadow of the Window by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

  2. Welcome back Lauren, it’s great to see you and one of your posts on WordPress again! 🙂 ❤ It seems like you had a brilliant few months as well, Fall Out Boy must have been incredible. I saw them a few years ago back when I was in uni and it was a great experience. I really want to try and see them live again one day.
Also amazing haul. I hope you love Leah on the Offbeat and Obsidio (if you haven't already read them that is) and all of Jay Kristoff's books too. After reading Nevernight and Godsgrave he's becoming a favourite author of mine and I'm so excited for LIFEL1K3. 🙂
    Again great post. 🙂 ❤

Obsidio ruined my life in the best way. I can’t believe the series is over 😩 I haven’t gotten to Leah yet but it’s definitely high up on my list along with Godsgrave and Lifel1k3!!

    1. It was so wonderful being able to see them again and headline this time around 😍 They are such sweet guys. John was like the loveliest person ever.

I knowwww. I’m still not used to it 😂 It definitely does!! I still haven’t explored everything.

Right. Couldn’t believe how cheap I found it for. It had the original price tag on it too and it was like $25.

      ❤️❤️❤️

      1. Ahh I bet! I haven’t actually met them…yet, but I’ve seen them live 3 times. I’m debating going to Warped Tour this year t see them, we’ll see!

Oh gosh with five floors, I bet you haven’t explored everything! I’m sure there is still a lot to see and ground to cover!

That is not bad! What a steal! 😀

        1. Ahhh I would love to go to Warped this year especially because it’s the last one 💔 I hope you get the chance to meet them because they are literally the best people. John thanked me when I said how much 24 Floors meant to me and it was literally one of the most genuine moments of my life.

Like there’s a whole floor dedicated to YA which I’ve got pretty much covered, haha. I definitely want to delve more into the general fiction and non-fiction sections though!!

          1. Right, plus it’s actually coming back to Canada as they haven’t been for the past couple years… having this conversation is really persuading me! 😝
I can imagine that they are super sweet. That is so nice of them; that song has so much meaning, I once broke down listening to it.

Holy, that is amazing! Happy exploring! 😀

  6. Lauren!! You’re back. I’m so happy to read about your adventures, i’ve missed seeing your posts. It looks like you have been to some amazing festivals, super jealous of Fall Out Boy and We The Kings. Love them both, I imagine they were AMAZING.

Also so many amazing books, i’ve read The Carrie Diaries a few years back and I really enjoyed it. I’m a big Sex and The City Fan and was a fan of the TV show for both of them as well. I preferred the TV Show for the Carrie Diaries if i’m honest though x
