#TheReadingQuest TBR + A Riddiculous Spreadsheet

#THEREADINGQUEST is being hosted by the amazing Aentee @ Read at Midnight. The STUNNING ART was created by CW @ Read Think Ponder. It’s a bingo-style readathon with a video game twist. Instead of just picking out a line you choose a character’s (Knight, Bard, Mage, Rogue) path to follow. It’s running from Sunday 13th August to Sunday 10th September, 2017. You get points for books, pages and completing quests and have an overall level – THERE’LL BE PRIZES!! IT LOOKS LIKE SO MUCH FUN! Definitely go check out Aentee’s Sign Up post (you can sign up until 13th August) because she goes into a lot more detail about all the rules and information!

(Want your own character card? Aentee has templates in her sign up post!)

As you can see I’m choosing to be a Rogue because I like pretending I’m a rebel. There are optional challenges and you can complete more than one quest, but because I’m participating in like 48292 readathons this much I just have a TBR for the main quest I’ll be doing.

So I’ll be (HOPEFULLY) reading the following books:

Some Girls Are The Hate U Give Vigilante
The New Human Beings Release

Banned book: Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers || 246 Pages
Book cover with a partially covered face: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas || 438 Pages
A book with under 500 ratings on Goodreads: Vigilante by Kady Cross || 260 Pages
A book published by a small press: The New Human Beings by Beau Taplin || 80 Pages
A book with a one word title: Release by Patrick Ness || 287 Pages

If I complete every book I’ll finish with a total of 130 EXP, 142 HP and be LEVEL 3. It’s nothing massive, but I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself it’s why I chose such short books. I’ll be updating my progress along the way on Twitter so be sure to follow me there if you want to see how I’m going!

The past few days I’ve been working on a ridiculous spreadsheet that automatically calculates all the points you earn for the readathon. It started off as just covering one quest and the optional challenges, but then I eventually got it to covering ALL QUESTS and the optional challenges. Did I need to do this? No. I wanted to try and prove to myself that I could though. It’s been a while since I’ve really challenged myself or used my Digital Media certificate lmao so. It’s still not 100% perfect, but I feel pretty smart for figuring out the majority of the formulas for everything. A couple people expressed interest in Twitter so I thought I’d share the final version here too in case anyone was interested.

HOW IT WORKS

Unless you’re familiar with Excel then please DO NOT do any of the following:

  • Change the position of cells
  • Modify the Calculations page
  • Rename the Sheet tabs

MANUAL INPUT REQUIRED

YOU NEED TO INPUT THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IN ORDER FOR THE SPREADSHEET TO WORK CORRECTLY:

  • Book Title
  • Pages Read / Total Pages
  • Whether the book is a Book (B), Graphic Novel/Manga ect. (GNM)
  • If the book is written by a marginalised author “Y” or “N”
  • When you’ve read ALL BOOKS for each individual quest you need to input “Y”
  • The number of times you mention #THEREADINGQUEST on social media (MAX 20!!!)
  • All the HP and EXP will calculate automatically and your Level will update every 50 EXP.

If there’s any errors lmk and I’ll do my best to fix it.

Are you participating in #TheReadingQuest? What character are you choosing?

Would love to hear your thoughts on any of the books I mentioned.

I hope you’re all having a fantastic day!

  1. Woah awesome job with the spreadsheet!!! I didn’t do the readathon, because, don’t judge…but I thought it looked too complicated for my brain hahahaha. Good luck with your readathon though, and I hope you love THUG (I haven’t heard anyone who hasn’t loved it yet).

  2. I’m going to be participating in this too! It’s just too cool of an idea to pass up. I really hope you enjoy Release if you get to it! I read it recently and really liked it 😊
Honestly I’m so grateful to you for making that spreadsheet!! I was wondering how I was going to track points, and since I spend like my whole working day looking at spreadsheets I was not looking forward to the prospect of making one myself 😂😂

I don't know any of the books you're going to read, but I hear Patrick Ness is a great author. Hope you'll enjoy them all! I'm participating as a Mage 😀

  4. Wow this sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I hope you get through the books on your list for this readathon Lauren, and I hope you have a lot of fun with it too because I guess that’s the whole point of readathons right? 🙂
I’m definitely in awe of the spreadsheet and the amount of work you’ve put into this. I use spreadsheets to organize everything I do so in my opinion the spreadsheet will only help you succeed when it comes to this readathon! 😀 ❤

  5. I am participating and I will be a Mage (as you would have seen earlier). I freaking loved The Hate U Give, it was honestly so moving! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! I hope you smash your TBR and I definitely will keep up with your progress!

  6. I’ve been thinking about participating in a read-a-thon for a while now, as I’ve never done that before! I always thought they’re not my kind of thing, but this one isn’t a super quick one that just lasts for a day, so I’m kinda curious. I also like the quest theme! 😀 I get home from my vacation on August 11, so the start is perfectly timed as well. I think I might sign up! 😝

      1. I WILL omg hahahaha. I just left a comment on the sign-up post and I’ll put together a TBR as soon as my laptops gets over itself and stops updating 😂 I’m really excited now??? Like I had no plans for August-September and now there will be challenges and Twitter hashtags and I’m PUMPED. I feel like a real adventurer.

          1. I think I’ll have to be a mage cause half of my TBR pile that I could use for the rogue quest is in England and I’ll be back in Spain during the read-a-thon, so the only path I can take is the mage one 😂😂 What a mess

  7. Great TBR and so great that you’re participating in this challenge! I couldn’t resist myself and I’ll be the mage – will probably post my TBR sometime tomorrow… Also, thanks so much for sharing the spreadsheet! I was already so worried about making this and was actually already kind of giving up on keeping score but thanks to you I’ll be in full control over my points 😉

  8. I’m participating in this challenge too, but I will be the knight. I am so excited! You’re actually the first rogue that I have seen; it seems as though literally everybody is the mage. Good luck with your TBR!
