Music Monday 🎧 Top 5 March Releases

Top 5 March

In January I made a post about my Top 5 Albums that I listened to that month. I took a break during February, but now I’m back with my faves for March. This time I’m changing it up to include single songs as well as albums. These posts aren’t supposed to be just music that was released in the particular month, however, because every artist EVER decided to release new music this month I’ve been listening to A LOT of new single releases.

Ed Sheeran – ÷ (2017)
Alt. Pop

I’m pretty sure EVERYONE knows or has listened to Ed’s new album, but I couldn’t not talk about it. I went through a stage where I listened to nothing but Ed’s album. I was so excited when he came back and released Castle On The Hill and Shape Of You. Whilst I did really enjoy I didn’t love it as much +, but with ÷ I felt a similar connection that I had with +. The songs made me laugh and cry and feel emotions that I did not want to feel (aka Perfect making my cold dead heart beat). I especially connected with Supermarket Flowers and Save Myself. I can’t recommend this album enough if you haven’t listened to it yet!

Songs You Should Listen To

Counterfeit. – Together We Are Stronger (2017)
Alt. Rock

I recently discovered that I was apparently the only person in the world who didn’t realise Jamie Campbell Bower was in a metal-ish band. I only know Jamie from the The Mortal Instruments movie and Sweeney Todd. I knew he did a lot of theater stuff so when I saw Rock Sound tweet about him being in a band I was like “…wait…what…”. I immediately listened to it and I was like YES??? I always get extra excited when I find new heavy bands because it’s one of my most loved genres. Seriously though, I was really impressed with the quality of this album for a debut.

Songs You Should Listen To

Lorde – Green Light (2017)
From the upcoming album Melodrama
Alt. Pop

I have been listening to Green Light on repeat since it was released. It is such a fun song. I’ve seen that A LOT of people don’t like it and I was ??? it’s so catchy, it makes me want to dance and the opening verse is incredible. I know people are comparing it to Royals, but honestly it took me quite a while to get into that song whereas with Green Light I fell in love instantly. I can’t wait to hear the entire album!

All Time Low – Dirty Laundry (2017)
From the upcoming alblum Last Young Renogade
Pop Punk

All Time Low recently announced their new album Last Young Renegade and that they switched labels from Hopeless Records to Fueled By Ramen. I’ve been eagerly awaiting new music from All Time Low so I was really excited, but nervous to hear Dirty Laundry. To be completely honest it took me quite a while to get into this song. A part of me still isn’t completely in love with it, but I’ve been listening to it A LOT so I don’t hate it. Honestly, the main reason why this is here is because I’m obsessed with the video. I’ve watched it so many times and have over analysed it way too much 😂 No, seriously, I have like an entire theory about this video. It’s so good. They also recently released another song called Last Young Renegade, but I’m not really feeling that one yet. It’s growing on me though.

new.wav – Centuries, Girls & New Americana Covers (2017)
Pop Punk

new.wav is Cameron Hurley’s (previously of We Are The In Crowd) side project. He makes covers, but restyles them to the sound of other songs. He’s done Girls by The 1975 in the style of Blink-182, Centuries by Fall Out By in the style of one of their early releases Take This To Your Grave and recently New Americana in the style of A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out. I’d never heard Cameron sing before, but I’m obsessed with his vocals. His voice sounds so good. The mashing up of the songs is so authentic too. It’d be easy for the multiple sounds to clash, but they blend so good! Plus, they all just have an awesome Pop Punk sound!

  1. Divide and Green light have been basically on repeat all month for me too 🙂 I am loving Divide, it’s definitely one of those albums that make you feel the whole range of emotions while listening. My favorites (other than Castle On The Hill and Shape Of You) are What Do I Know, Supermarket Flowers and Save Myself.
I wasn’t completely sold on Dirty Laundry by All Time Low either, but I haven’t listened to it that much yet, so maybe I just need to listen to it a bit more… Haven’t heard Last Young Renegade yet, so I’ll have to look it up 🙂
And umm.. I didn’t know Jamie Campbell Bower was in a band either?! And I also kind of like it, based on the songs you featured. Will check out more 🙂

    1. So glad you’ve been loving them too! I love Supermarket Flowers and Save Myself so much. They both made me cry when I listened to them.

Yeah, it definitely took a while to grow on me. I’m still not completely sold, but I definitely feel better about it now than I did at the start.

I was so shocked when I found out 😂 I was really impressed with the album though. It’s such a great sound too.

  2. I’m listening to a lot of sad songs!! Milk and Bone is on all the time 🙂 And as a big fan of James Blunt (don’t judge xD) I had to get the new CD!

  3. Oh these are some amazing releases from this month. I love Ed Sheeran’s new album. I’ve downloaded it on my iPod finally and have been listening to it pretty much non stop on my way to and from work. Also I really like Lorde’s new track as well. It’s been stuck in my head for days but it’s not one of those songs I hate having in my head but one I find myself singing along to every so often! 😀
I can’t wait for her to release a new album, which I hope is in the works soon! 🙂

  4. See, I am one of those people who really loved Royals the first time that I heard, and feel like Green Light is just going to have to grow on me a bit. I mean, it’s catchy and I like it, but I just don’t have that emotional connection to it like I do with Royals. Obviously, I’m not saying it’s not a good song, in fact some of my favorite songs are ones that have had to grow on me. lol. I’ll take anything Ed Sheeran and All Time Low. 🙂

    1. I definitely understand! It was really different to Royals so I can see why people were a bit put off. I definitely feel more of a mainstream radio vibe in the song too and I get why people might have not felt as connected. There was just something about it that hooked me immediately, haha. Have you heard the other song she released, Liability?

  5. I’m pretty sure I’m the only person in the world who hasn’t listened to Ed’s new album all the way through. Which is terrible since I had both + and x on repeat for months when they released. I blame it on the fact that I’ve been obsessing over the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack, I’ve had it on repeat for a while. 😂🙈 And I haven’t listened to All Time Low’s new song yet but I’ll definitely need to soon. 😊

      1. Exactly, I swear half the time when I get to into a song or album I wear it out for myself because I put it on repeat for hours. Never happened with Ed’s albums though. I could listen to his music forever and never get tired of it. 😂

  6. Shape of You is kind of considered Ed’s sell-out song, but I love it! 😀
Haven’t listened to much this month ’cause I’ve not really been feeling music in general. 😪

    1. Haha, really? That’s interesting to me because it doesn’t really sound much different to stuff on his previous albums. I suppose the chorus is a bit mainstream-y 😂. I preferred Castle on the Hill, but I still really love that one. It’s super fun to sing along to! Aww, nooo. Hopefully you’ll find something that will hook you back in!

  7. I’ve been meaning to listen to Jamie Bower Campbell’s band Counterfeit. Like I follow him on Twitter and it’s all he talks about… obviously and I kept putting it off. This blog actually got me to listen (so thank you!) & it’s really good! One more reason to love the guy! 😀
I wasn’t a big fan of All Time Low’s last album, it had its good moments, I really want to get back into them because I loved them as a teenager, gosh they made up the moments of my teen years haha!

    1. Aw, yay!! Glad you like it 😀 I can’t believe I didn’t know about it 😂

I really loved Future Hearts, but I definitely agree that there was something special about their older albums. I’m a bit worried about this one, tbh. I hope I like it, but I’m just not sure at the moment 🙈

      1. haha I think Counterfeit are just starting to get recognition, I hope more people hear of their stuff so they can tour outside the UK!
ATL’s older album are so nostalgic for me, and there will always be a part of me that loves them. I liked the song Dirty Laundry but their news one, I can’t remember the name atm, I didn’t care for as much, so we’ll see.

        1. Yeah, I feel like a lot of bands go under the radar until they release a debut album.

Yesss. They have such a special place in my heart. I’ve been listening to them since 2006 so they’re one of the first bands I ever loved. I want to love their new album, but idk yet. I guess I’ll see, haha.

  8. I still haven’t listened to Divide yet but I’m so scared that I won’t like it! I don’t want to be that person haha I loved both Shape of You and Castle on the Hill but I’m still scared that I’ll hate the album.
Also, All Time Low is still releasing music? I haven’t listened to their songs since their fourth album haha

    1. Awww!!! I’m sure you’ll love it if you liked those two 😀 If you don’t though, that’s okay ♥♥

Haha, yesss 😂 They’re actually pretty “big” now. Well, for that scene anyway. They’ve sold out arenas and stadiums. It’s kinda weird to see because I’ve been listening to them for so long. I feel like they’re gonna possibly become a Twenty One Pilots situation with this album too since they’re now on the same label.

      1. Thanks haha I hope I’ll love it just in case ❤️
That’s cool! I felt like they’ve always had a big fanbase, a lot of those bands do, they just don’t get “mainstream” success but maybe they’ll pull a 21 pilots who knows haha

  9. Oh, my god. Supermarket Flowers broke me. I saw so many people saying it made them cry and it was so sad so I, of course, took this as a challenge and as soon as I realised what it was about I just cried an absolute river. So good. Also, Green Light is amazing. I’ve been a huge fan of Lorde since she released her Pure Heroine album and I was so excited when she released Green Light. It’s different and I wasn’t sure about it to begin with, but it grew on me so quick. It’s so bitter and that’s the exact thing I love about Lorde, I know a lot of people don’t like it because it’s so different from her other stuff but listening to the lyrics, it is actually very Lorde-ish. I love it, have you heard Liability yet? I cried, it is so beautiful and the lyrics are so heartbreaking.

    1. I lost my grandma a few years ago so hearing that song was really hard. I cried a lot, but it was quite therapeutic. It was such an emotional song. I totally agree about Green Light. Even though it was quite different it still felt very Lorde to me. I loved Liability. I love the range of emotion she has in her voice and I’m so excited for the new album.

  10. I totally get that thing about ‘Green Light’ by Lorde. It is one heck of a song and it makes me feel kinda happy? I dunno why. But it just does. ❤
