Diversity Bingo 2017 (Potential) TBR + Recs

Diversity Bingo 2017.png

Diversity Bingo 2017 was created by a bunch of lovely people who you can see listed in the image below! You can also see more information here from Aimal @ Bookshelves & Paperbacks. To participate just find a book that matches each prompt. The goal is to fill up the entire sheet by the end of the year. Make sure to check out the #DiversityBingo2017 hashtag on social media to see what everyone’s up to and to share your progress!!

Obviously, like always, my TBR is set to change! I have no idea how well I’ll go with this, but reading more diversely is one of the main things I want to achieve this year so hopefully I can get through a good amount.

I’ve tried my hardest to make sure these are all correct, but if any of these are in the wrong category or have been called out for harmful rep and other problematic elements please let me know!

Would love to hear your thoughts on any of the books I mentioned.

  1. These are amazing TBR and recommendations Lauren! I see a lot of favorite AND books that are already on my TBR 😀 I’m not joining the bingo but only because I never stay committed to ANY reading challenge except the goodreads one 😂😂 buuut I do plan to read more diverse books and I’m definitely going to steal some of the books/prompts here 😀 Of all the books on this list I’m currently waiting for History is All You Left Me, The Girl from Everywhere, and A Quiet Kind of Thunder to arrive on my doorstep soon ❤

    1. Thank you!! Yeah, I have no idea how much I’ll stick to it but we’ll see 😂 I really hope you enjoy AQKOT! I know there was some drama with the author recently, but I felt like the book was really wonderful. I am so so excited for HIAYLM! I’m so ready for Adam Silvera to break my heart again 😂

        1. Her and another author were kinda making fun of and being judge-y about people who read lots??? Like, I don’t know if her intention was to be harmful, but it defs came across that way. I also think it’s incredibly ironic for an author to be complaining about people reading?? LIke whaaaaaat 😂 I don’t know. It was kinda just the hot topic for a day and now everyone’s seemed to have moved on.

  2. I love this book so, so much and I’m hoping to add some of these to my TBR! I’m not doing any reading challenges or bingo because I’m scared I wouldn’t be able to keep up, but I do plan and want to read more diversely this year, so… I know where to find great books now, in your list haha 🙂 Best of luck! 🙂

  3. Sooo many great choices. I don’t think I’ve read any of them except for Labyrinth Lost which is kind of ridiculous (shame on me), but a ton of them are on my TBR. Good luck getting a bunch of these books read! 🙂

  4. This seems like a wonderful read-a-thon to take part in and there are some amazing books on your to-read list as well Lauren. I’ve made it my aim to read more diversely this year so I will be adding some of these books to my to-read list as well, although I’ve actually already read or added a fair few of these to my to-read list already. I’ve never tried taking part in a read-a-thon before, I’m not sure if they’d work for me but I’d like to try one one day. Good luck with this read-a-thon Lauren, hopefully you make it through all these books! 😀

  5. Good luck with the bingo, Lauren! I wanted to join in but I got lazy looking at all the prompts (they’re really great prompts, though) – I think I’ll just keep picking up diverse books as I want.

I’m excited for you to read More Happy Than Not, Seven Ways We Lie, A Thousand Splendid Suns, TWATD, Ari and Dante and Simon Vs! Also 100% yes for Everything I Never Told You – that’s one of my favourite reads from last year. ❤

    1. Thanks, Reg! Haha, yeah, I definitely understand. It took me quite a while to find books to fit. I did find lots of new books though 😀 Even though my TBR now hates me even more.

I have already read More Happy Than Not, Ari & Dante and Simon Vs!! I loved them all so much and I’m super excited to read the rest too!!

      1. I knooow. That’s actually one of the reasons as well – I’m planning to read less books this year to make space for other hobbies and doing a bingo and adding 274610 books to my TBR would make that impossible for me.

Eep, sorry! I thought you had but I saw those titles on the bingo and must’ve missed your little asterisked note at the bottom, haha. Oops. 😛

        1. That’s definitely understandable!! I always go through an “unhaul” on GR and feel accomplished until I add another 20 back, haha. I hope you manage to find a good balance 😀

Aww, no that’s okay!!!!! It probably wasn’t that noticeable. I just got lazy and figured it was the easiest way 😂

  6. Good luck! It sounds really fun, and very educational – I would love to do it! I’m a bit worried though, because there are so many categories. I might just save this post, and read some of the books listed here!
Hope you get around to Ari and Dante soon – it was a bit difficult for me to start reading it, but it was a beautiful read ❤

  7. I am also participating in diversity december bingo so your recs are very much appreciated and I have added them onto my tbr! Also, I love a quiet kind of thunder! I read it recently and gave it a solid five stars because it is such a beautiful and well researched story! Unfortunately i didn’t like of fire and stars which I read last year and ended up DNFing it.

    1. Yay!! Hopefully we can both read a bunch of the books 😀 AQKOT was such a wonderful surprise! I thought it was gonna be a typical YA contemporary, but it was definitely a lot more. Sorry you didn’t enjoy OF&S! It definitely had a lot of tropes, I just found it really fun and loved how the romance developed.

  8. AH this is such a great idea for a readathon and such an amazing TBR! I’ll definitely be checking back to this post for diverse recs 🙂 Though I probably won’t enter the readathon, I still want to try and read diversely. So many books I already read and loved are on this list and even more so that I still want to read. I’m currently reading History Is All You Left Me and I’m already loving it so much, Adam Silvera is a genius with words that make you feel all the emotions on the spectrum ❤

    1. Thanks so much, Lindsey! I don’t know how far I’ll get, but I’m definitely excited to try and to, especially, read more diversely! I can’t wait to read History Is All You Left Me! I should finish some current reads first, but I probably won’t be able to resist picking it up haha.

  9. You TBR is fantastic!! I haven’t created a “formal” TBR for Diversity Bingo 2017 yet. I’m just going to read like I usually do in 2017 and fill the categories I happen to meet. Halfway though the year, I’ll see what categories are left over and then start to do some targeted reading to complete the whole sheet! I’m still looking for #ownvoices Pansexual MC. Perhaps that category was a little too narrow :/ We need more time for these kinds of stories to be written!

    1. Thank you ♥ Honestly, I’ll probably end up doing something similar. I always attempt a TBR because I like to think it motivates me but 😂 Yeah! Unfortunately, that and the non-binary categories were really difficult. I think it’s because it doesn’t exist (yet) and a lot of people, understandably, don’t want to share that kind of information.
