November Wrap Up

Monthly Wrap Ups

I’m honestly having a hard time trying to process the fact that it’s DECEMBER. When did this happen?

me-me-me

There really isn’t a whole lot to say about November! This was an incredibly stressful month for me. Probably one of the worst all year. I don’t want to talk about it too much because who wants to hear me whine šŸ˜…?

I did go to a wildlife park at the start of the month though and it was so lovely being surrounded by nature. The animals were so beautiful and friendly. I didn’t want to leave the camel or kangaroos. One kangaroo was even hugging me. It was so cute.

But basically I had way too much time on my hands this month and just took Snapchat (add me!) photos of my cat

Also, it’s time for me to release my inner Grinch because Lauren is not a fan of ChristmasĀ šŸ™…šŸ»šŸŽ„šŸš«šŸŽ…šŸ»

bookshauled

So at the start of the month I splurged and bought theĀ Six of CrowsĀ boxset. It was on sale from an Australian bookstore and I’m super impatient when it comes TBD shipping times so I was like “WHY NOT”. It’s so so pretty. Way prettier than my crappy photos can do justice. I PROMISE I’M GONNA READ THIS AS SOON AS I FINISH THE BOOK THIEF.

I also bought Gemina, the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them screenplay and Dan and Phil’s new book: Dan and Phil Go Outside! I almost cried when I bought Gemina. The cover for FBaWtFT is so stunning.

booksread

This was a really average reading month. I really wanted to knock out a ton of my TBR, but it just didn’t happen. I readĀ GeminaĀ at the start of the month and it RUINED ME. I mostly just read single issues of comics this month. Apparently I was handing out 5 stars to everything though so at least I read a lot of books I loved!!

Covers = Goodreads/My Review

gemina-by-amie-kaufman-jay-kristoffĀ dan-and-phil-go-outside-by-dan-howell-phil-lesterĀ magnus-chase-and-the-hammer-of-thor-by-rick-riordanĀ hamilton-the-revolution-by-lin-manuel-miranda-jeremy-mccarter

Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff (ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…) – As I said above this book RUINED ME. It’s literally all I’ve been able to think about. I EVEN LISTENED TO THE AUDIOBOOK ONCE I FINISHED READING THE BOOK. I’ve never listened to an audiobook in my life. THIS IS WHAT THIS BOOK REDUCED ME TO. I’ve been trying to write a review for WEEKS. Basically this was everything I wanted and more and I’m in love with Niklas Malikov.

Dan and Phil Go Outside by Dan Howell & Phil Lester (ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…)Ā – This was a photo book of Dan and Phil’s liveshow tour. I’m super sad that I missed it when it came to my city and seeing all the photos did but didn’t help haha.Ā Dan & Phil have been my favourite YouTubers since 2009 and I’m super proud of them. I did prefer their other book, but this was still super fun.

Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan (ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…)Ā – I enjoyed The Sword of Summer but I LOVED THE HAMMER OF THOR. There was just something about it that Sword of Summer was missing. PLUS THERE’S A GENDER FLUID TRANSGENDER SIDE CHARACTERĀ and they have a pretty important role. The ending also has me SUPER excited for the next book.

Hamilton: The Revolution by Lin-Manuel Miranda & Jeremy McCarter (ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…)Ā – I said it pretty much all in my review. This book is beautiful. The writing is beautiful. Go listen to Hamilton!!!!!!!!!

a-gathering-of-shadows-by-v-e-schwabĀ fantastic-beasts-and-where-to-find-them-the-original-screenplay-by-j-k-rowlingĀ the-universe-of-us-by-lang-leav

A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab (ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…)Ā – I finally got around to finishing this during Tome Topple!! AND I’M NOT OKAY. WHAT WAS THAT ENDING? I love Holland so much. I know I shouldn’t, but I just love complex villains okay??? I’m so so so excited forĀ A Conjuring of Light!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay by J.K. Rowling (ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…)Ā – Loved the movie. Loved this. UnlikeĀ The Cursed ChildĀ you could immediately tell that Jo wrote this. I’d love a full length novel.

The Universe of UsĀ by Lang Leav (ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…)Ā – I randomly decided to read this and despite the fact that the majority of it was love poems it made my cold, dead heart feel a lot of things.Ā I really enjoyed it!

lullabies-by-lang-leavĀ love-misadventure-by-lang-leavĀ heartless-by-marissa-meyerĀ The Blazing Star

Lullabies and Love & Misadventure by Lang Leav (ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…)Ā – I decided to read more of Lang’s work because I enjoyed TUoU so much, but unfortunately I wasn’t as into these ones. Something felt off and the rhyming felt a little forced. I hate critiquing people’s writing because I’m not a writer, but I just couldn’t connect.

Heartless by Marissa Meyer (ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…)Ā – As a huge Wonderland fan I was eagerly anticipating this. I’ve only readĀ CinderĀ but really enjoyed it and with the focus being the Queen of Hearts I was super intrigued. Unfortunately this fell flat for me. It was too romance heavy and slow. I did enjoy Marissa’s writing style though and her take on Wonderland. I honestly just spent the majority of this book hungry because of all the baked goods.

The Blazing Star by Imani JoseyĀ (ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…)Ā – I loved the setting and diversity in this it was so beautiful. I struggled a lot with the slow plot there and there were sooooo many characters I can’t remember them all. Definitely excited to read more from this author in the future though!

movies-music

You’ve probably seen me mention that I am not a movie person. I normally watch 5 movies a year. However, sometimes I’ll go through a phase where I want to marathon them. That phase was apparently the past week because I ended up watching quite a few.

fantastic-beasts-and-where-to-find-themĀ the-force-awakensĀ suicide-squad
ghostbustersĀ ant-manĀ captain-america-civil-war

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find ThemĀ was AMAZING 10/10 A+ DO RECOMMEND. I was super skeptical going into it, but oh man. It totally blew me away. I am in love with Newt. The creatures were so amazing and it was so magical. I loved Queenie & Jacob. I honestly wanna go see it again.

Civil War (#TeamCap Forever)Ā andĀ The Force AwakensĀ were re-watches. The Force AwakensĀ is one of my favourite movies ever. It’s what made me fall in love withĀ Star Wars. I love Rey and Finn so much. I also love Kylo Ren because I’m trash.

Suicide Squad and GhostbustersĀ were SO GOOD. They’re definitely two new favourites of mine. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Suicide Squad, but I ended up falling in love with it. Harley Quinn, Deadshot and Diablo were amazing. I don’t get the hate with Ghostbusters. It was hilarious. I loved seeing women get to be badass, intelligent and funny. Ant-Man was okay. I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much if it wasn’t for Paul Rudd.

I posted my November playlist in more detail the other day, but I added some more songs to it and in case you missed it!! Here it is again!!

I also updated my playlist of all my favourite albums that have been released this year.

theblog

Unfortunately, I had another pretty inconsistent blogging month because of all the stress I was dealing with irl. Here’s some of my favourite posts I did this month:

I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself for next month. December is always crazy in my house because Christmas is pretty hectic when you have a huge family.

sep

How was your November? What was your favourite read?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on anything I mentioned!

I hope you all had a fantastic November and an even better December xx

  1. Looks like you had a relatively good November, Lauren! SO GLAD that you ended up enjoying AGOS – I’d have died if you didn’t, and omfg Holland. šŸ’ž I’m both super excited and scared for A Conjuring of Light. I can only hope it lives up to the first two books and that my bbs all make it out alive bc it’s terrifying, tbh, what they have to go through.

    Aaaand I still haven’t read Illuminae/Gemina. šŸ™ˆšŸ™ˆšŸ™ˆ

  2. I’m sorry to hear that November was stressful for you. Hopefully December is nothing but joyful. I can’t believe we’re already in the last month of 2016. Where has the time gone?

I don;t think I’ve fully recovered from the trauma of A Gathering of Shadows. That was just cruel. I just want to kidnap Kell, Rhy, Lila and Alucard and stuff them in my protective bubble so no further harm can come to them.

I still need to get my hands on Gemina but that might have to wait until Christmas.

  3. I’m sorry to hear you had a stressful November Lauren! cheers to a better January? lol since you mentioned not loving Christmas. Gemina! wasn’t it perfection?!?! It took me a week to formulate my thoughts into a review so I totally get it haha! You have me super amped up for Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor. My hubby & I enjoyed The Sword Of Summer but we completely agree that it was def lacking something. I’m holding of on AGOS cuz I have no patience & waiting for A Conjuring Of Light would kill me smh lol. I have yet to listen to Hamilton but it’s gonna happen, I wanna know what the hubbub is all about. Oddly enough I follow Lin on Twitter & love his personality. Suicide Squad was awesome & FBAWTFT felt like a homecoming, I didn’t realize how much I’ve missed that world. The icing on the cake was having it take place during the 20’s, nice wrap-up Lauren šŸ™‚

    1. Thanks, Lily ā™„ I’m still not over Gemina. Ahh, yay! I hope you enjoy The Hammer of Thor šŸ˜€ I definitely felt like it was better than The Sword of Summer!! And haha, I totally get that. I think that’s why I kept putting off AGoS. Lin’s tweets are amazing! I hope you enjoy Hamilton too!! It took me a couple of listens to get into it, but then I was OBSESSED. And yesssss. I loved them both. I really wanna see FBAWTF again.

I feel like when I watched it, I had heart eyes & need a re-watch lol. I don’t want Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman to ever stop writing together šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

  4. I’m sorry things have been stressful for you lately Lauren, but here’s hoping you have a relatively stress-free December and a completely stress-free 2017 when we reach the new year as well!
Either way you got through some amazing books/films this month. I absolutely loved Fantastic Beasts, both the book and the film. I am already desperately waiting for the next one to be released! Also I am so so glad to see you loved A Gathering of Shadows. I completely agree with you about the ending but at least it’s not long until the last book is out! We’ll have our answers soon! šŸ˜€

  5. FYI: sharing your struggles is in no way whining and you should feel open to talk about them specially in your blog since that’s your platform. Or with me cause I’m a great listener and your friend šŸ˜„
IM SO HAPPY YOU LOVED A GATHERING OF SHADOWS!!! It’s one of my favorite books of all time from my all time favorite author and yeah šŸ˜

    1. Aw, Sara, thank youuu ā™„ You’re the best. I’m trying to teach myself that, but atm the my brain is just like “you’re not allowed to talk about your problems because you’re just being annoying”. It’s hard trying to unlearn so many years of negative thinking, but I am definitely trying.

IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!! I can’t wait for A Conjuring of Light!!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I definitely understand. That’s something that I’m trying to unlearn as well so I get where you’re coming from. We just have to help each other out at it šŸ˜„
ME TOO! Eeppp! I can’t wait for it to come out, I feel like it’s been foreverrr

  6. Ugh I can’t wait for A Conjuring of Light to come out because AGOS had such a cliffhanger and I NEED to know what happens hahaha I really should read Six of Crows… I hear so many good things about that book. But I’m so stubborn and I refuse to read it before I read the Grisha trilogy (I don’t really know why…).

I can’t wait to read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! My mom bought it for me for Christmas.. or well I made her buy it for me so I have to wait to read it! My dad is trying to find a time that is good for both me and my brother to watch the movie, which has been harder than anyone can imagine ha!
It looks like you had a good reading month! šŸ™‚

  8. You’ve had quite a successful reading month despite the stress! *hugs* I hope December will let you be a little more relaxed. I know December and January are always the most stressful months for me, I hate them! I usually have exams on both months and with Christmas in between, I can never enjoy it.
I NEED TO READ SIX OF CROWS NOOOOOOOOOW

  9. Aw man, I feel ya. I told myself I’d read FIFTEEN WHOLE BOOKS IN NOVEMBER (which is a lot for me) and how many did I read? Six. Welp. I TRIED. I really enjoyed them though so hey ho, it’s still a success! I’ve surpassed my Goodreads challenge so I’m planning on taking the rest of the year as slow or fast as I want to depending on what I’m reading!

  10. I’m sorry November ended up being really stressful for you. And although you mention December might equally hectic I really hope it’s slightly better for you than November was! šŸ’•
Either way you seemed to have a pretty decent reading month which is awesome. Also, I saw and loved Fantastic Beasts too. That movie was so good! I wish I could go see it again. And I really hope you enjoy Six of Crows!! I can’t wait to see your thoughts on it.
As for my November, it was pretty stressful as well because of school. I’m counting down the days until winter break! šŸ˜Š

  11. Looks like you’ve had an awesome reading month, sorry to hear it was a stressful month personally. I can’t wait to read the Fantastic Beasts screenplay, the movie was fantastic and I might be in love with Newt. I love the cat snaps, I’m always trying to get it to recognise my cats face.

    Like

    1. Thank you ā™„ The screenplay was wonderful! It doesn’t add a whole lot more, but it just reaffirmed my love for the movie and it was magical. Newt is everything šŸ˜ Hahaha. I’m fortunate enough that my cat seems to have the perfect face for it šŸ˜…

  12. Awww sorry to hear that November was stressful for you! Hope that December treats you better. And it looks like you had an excellent reading month at least. Totally agree with Fantastic Beasts – Cursed Child just felt like fan-fiction and I was so unimpressed lol. And actually I thought exactly the same as you about Heartless!

    Like

    1. Thank you ā™„ā™„ Right. It was an awesome nostalgic experience reading Cursed Child, but everyone was so out of character and some of the plots were so cringe worthy. Fantastic Beasts was brilliant! Glad I’m not alone with Heartless! I definitely see why people loved it, but it just wasn’t something I could connect with.

  13. Wow you read a lot this month! Jealous. You also watched some awesome movies. I liked AntMan but I think you’re right, if Paul Rudd wasn’t in it it probably wouldn’t have been as good. hah Also, I feel you on the slow November. I didn’t have much to share in my wrap-up either lol

    1. Haha, thanks! It was pretty good. I just wish I had have got through some of the books I really want to get through before the end of the year. But it’s okay. They’re not going anywhere!! It’s definitely one of the weakest Marvel movies. Paul Rudd definitely helped me get through it haha. I feel like I never have anything interesting to share in my wrap ups šŸ˜… I live such a boring life xD

  14. That’s just an average reading month for you? Wha, I’m so jealous! I guess I’m a really slow reader. Glad to see you enjoyed A GATHERING OF SHADOWS, its next on my TBR pile šŸ™‚

  16. Sorry November seemed to suck so much for you, Lauren. Of course, we are always here to talk if you need it!
At least reading and movie wise it did seem like a great month! The Fantastic Beasts screenplay looks absolutely gorgeous, I’m definitely adding it to my wishlist because I’m already missing the world again… Talking about missing worlds, I’m so reading A Gathering Of Shadows this month because I have put it of long enough and I don’t want to wait any longer! I need all these characters in my life again, but also Holland = ā¤

  17. Ooh you read a lot of books this month! That cover of Fantastic Beasts screenplay is definitely gorgeous ā¤ also, the movies you saw this month are also amazing! I really need to watch Ghostbuster though, I'm curious about all the hate it got!

  18. 23 stars for Gemina?! Sounds like the best book ever. lol
Looks like you had an amazing reading month, with the lowest scores being 3s. Nice.
The Six of Crows series are such gorgeous books. They really know how to sell a book from the packaging alone! I don’t know when I’m going to read my copy of Six of Crows. I feel like I’m reading tons of books, but it’s never enough to actually crawl out of my TBR pile. It’s a little depressing, tbh. x) I went way overboard with the amount of books I bought in 2016. I’ll try to be better about it next year. Maybe.

    First off Kangeroos?! So cute!
I’ve read Love and Misadventure and like you found the rhyming to be too forced at times, I wasn’t really a fan of the constant rhyme but I liked it. Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur is one I really love, not sure if you have read that one? I remember telling you about it in the past and being like read it haha!
I bought Ghostbusters the other day and still need to watch it, it had so many mixed reviews but I love Melissa Mcarthy and think a group of funny kick ass women will be something I love!

    Great Month Lauren! šŸ˜€

I adore milk and honey to pieces. It’s definitely one of my favourite reads of the year. I can’t wait until Rupi Kaur releases more of her work.

I’m super late in replying to this so I’m not sure if you’ve watched it, but I hope you enjoy(ed) it!! I really don’t understand the mixed reviews because, imo, it was hilarious.
