Underhyped Books on my TBR That I Need To Read // Top Ten Tuesday #14

This week’s theme for Top Ten Tuesday is to talk about books we love that have under 2000 ratings on Goodreads, but because I’ve mentioned all those books quiet a lot I decided to showcase some books that are on my TBR instead!

Nightfall by Jake Halpern and Peter Kujawinksi || 1602 Ratings: This is one I really need to read because I received it from Allen & Unwin so I need to review it. It’s a YA horror about an island that has 14 years of day followed by 14 years of night and some crazy stuff starts happening in the dark.

The Penguin Book of Witches by Katherine Howe || 321 Ratings: I literally just found this like I wasn’t even going to include it in this post it was that recent. I was watching Taylor @ Leather-Bound’s June Book Haul video and she mentioned a Penguin book about Egyptian myths and I was like [ADDS TO TBR IMMEDIATELY] and then on my Goodreads search I found this which is a collection of non-fiction texts about witches and the moment I get some money on my debit card I am purchasing it because witches are everything.

The May Queen Murders by Sarah Jude || 374 Ratings: Another YA Thriller (spoiler alert: this is going to be a trend). The cover is one of the most stunning and visually pleasing things I’ve seen in my life. It’s all about small towns and the woods and secrets – so my aesthetic.

Bodies of Water by V.H. Leslie || 33 Ratings: I mentioned this briefly before but I found this via Mercedes @ MercysBookishMusings and it souns so intriguing. It’s about a women’s sanatorium that uses hydropathy as a form of treatment. Years later it’s renovated into a house and a women moves in and weird things happen and the two timelines start blurring together.

   

Daughters Unto Devils by Amy Lukavics || 1313 Ratings: A YA historical horror about a family who move to a new cabin in the prairies and they discover that the inside is covered in blood. That’s honestly all I need to know. Sidenote: I love that this is a horror and it has 13 twice in the number of ratings.  

Every Breath by Ellie Marney || 1965 Ratings: This is an Australian YA retelling of Sherlock Holmes. Enough said. Sign me the heck up.

Premeditated by Josin L. McQuein || 1802 Ratings: This has a really vague summary but from what I can gather it’s about a girl whose cousin committed suicide and the MC finds out why and plans to get revenge on the person who caused it. It sounds really powerful.

Perfect Days by Raphael Montes || 1288 Ratings: I found this because Joce @ squibblesreads talked about it and it sounded so disturbing and creepy. It’s about this guy who becomes obsessed with a girl writing a screenplay about Brazil and he ends up kidnapping her and taking her to Brazil to go on a twisted version of the journey she wrote in her screenplay. In case you guys hadn’t realised I really enjoy dark and twisted books 😉.

  
 

Radio Silence by Alice Oseman || 491 Ratings: I’m not really sure what this is about because the blurb doesn’t give much away. I just know that it’s a coming of age contemporary and has LGBT+ themes and that everyone who’s reviewed it has loved it so!!

If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo || 1830 Ratings: This is a book about a Transgirl written by a Transwoman which features a Transgirl on the cover and I’m so glad it exists. People who have read it says it lacks a bit of depth, but that it’s still such an important read.

Take It as a Compliment by Maria Stoian || 239 Ratings: I found this via Jean @ Bookishthoughts in a video where she spoke about non-fiction graphic novels. It’s a collection of women’s and men’s stories of sexual abuse that they’ve experienced. This again sounds extremely important and I love that it’s calling out the culture that says we should treat unwarranted sexual advances as a “compliment”.

In the Dark, In the Woods by Eliza Wass || 306 Ratings: So I spent THE LONGEST time being mad that The Cresswell Plot wasn’t available in Australia and then like a couple of weeks ago I discovered that it had a different title. So yeah – In the Dark, In the Woods is the alternate title for The Cresswell Plot. This is a YA thriller that’s about a family with secrets and I think the family has a cult like dynamic and there’s a woods and it just sounds so creepy and interesting. It doesn’t have the best rating on Goodreads but I don’t care. I know I’m going to love it.

Gray by Pete Wentz || 1543 Ratings: Fall Out Boy has been in my life for over 10 years and I absolutely love Pete’s lyrics and his other book The Boy With The Thorn In His Side  so I really need to read this. It’s a contemporary that is a loosely based autobiography and it has themes that deal with mental illness. The reviews say it’s dark and depressing and beautiful and I love those types of book so much.
