Impatience Is A Virtue, Right? // Anticipated Upcoming Releases

Anticipated Upcoming Releases

So, despite my need for time to slow down I would also like it to temporarily speed up so I can get my hands on the following books. There’s probably a heap I’ve forgotten too, but I was trying to keep it as short (😂😂😂) as possible. These are only releases for the rest of 2016.

Sci-Fi

Gemina Replica

Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff [October 18th] – I think I mention Illuminae on every post I’ve made on this blog. It’s no secret that it’s one of my favourite books ever. It’s part of the reason why this blog exists. I am so excited for Gemina I can’t express it in words. It is hands down my most anticipated release of the year. I can’t wait to meet new characters, revisit old ones and see all the document formats. Knowing people have read this book already actually kills me.
Replica by Lauren Oliver [October 4th] – I haven’t read any Lauren Oliver books yet, but I’m just so INTRIGUED by this book and the formatting. There’s three different ways to read it? How cool is that!! I’m not even sure what it’s about other than two girls who are scientific experiments?

Fantasies

Three Dark Crowns Of Fire and Stars The Hammer of Thor This Savage Song

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake [September 20th] –  Kendare’s Anna series is one of my all time favourite books and this is about magical triplets (except two of them have been faking!) fighting because only one of them can be queen. It sounds AMAZING. I’ve seen some mixed reviews, but I’m still pumped.
Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst [November 22nd] – When I first saw this on Goodreads I remember rolling my eyes because I thought it was going to be a carbon copy of other fantasies out there and then I reread the blurb and I almost passed out. A FANTASY WITH A LESBIAN COUPLE? THE PRINCESSES TEAMING UP AND FALLING IN LOVE WITH EACH OTHER? This seems too good to be real.
The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan  [October 4th] – The second book in the Magnus Chase series. Whilst The Sword of Summer wasn’t my favourite Rick Riordan book I did still really enjoy it and loved the group of characters. I’m super excited to see what happens next and to learn more Norse mythology.
This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab  [July 5th]– Despite not having read anything by Victoria I can’t wait for this. It sounds AMAZING. Monsters, cityscapes, and the best part? NO ROMANCE. I feel like all my prayers have been answered. Where is Victoria? I need to offer up my non-existent first born child to her. NO ROMANCE, GUYS. Let’s all let that sink in.

Thrillers

The Girls Black The Female of the Species I'm Thinking of Ending Things

The Girls by Emma Cline [June 14th] – I’ve mentioned before that I’m really interested in true crime and especially cults. The Girls is loosesly based on the Manson cult. I find the psychology and dynamic of cults so incredibly fascinating. I also despise them. So I feel like this will (hopefully) be a really interesting read.
Black by Fleur Ferris [June 27th] – I love YA Thrillers and to make this better it’s an Australia YA! It’s about a girl who is surrounded by tragic deaths. There’s a small town and secrets and it’s just my weakness, okay?
The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis [September 20th] – A girl who avenges her sister’s murder discovers she actually likes killing? Did Mindy McGinnis get inside my head for this or what? I’M SO READY. I hope it’s dark and twisted.
I’m Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid [June 14th] – This has a really vague description which makes me even more interested. All I know (and want to know) is that it’s about a couple who ends up at an abandoned school and have to escape? And that  it’s extremely psychological? It’s only short too, which I live for.

Horrors

The Creeper Man What the Dead Want The Merciless II

The Creeper Man by Dawn Kurtagich [July 14th] – The US title for this is And the Trees Crept In which I think sounds way creepier, but anyway. The blurb is kinda vague (but like I said, I love that!). It’s about a family with secrets and the woods and some weird guy? It just seems creepy and another psychological one so!
What the Dead Want by Norah Olson [July 26th] – This is a haunted house story which isn’t anything new but again it’s just something I’m always weak for. This book also contains photos which I’m super excited about.
The Merciless II by Danielle Vega [July 5th] – I loved The Merciless so much and I didn’t even know Danielle was planning on writing a sequel until I saw it on Goodreads. I’m excited and anxious. There’s more exorcisms and it’s set a creepy boarding school which is my aesthetic. I hope it’s as disturbing as the first book.

ARCs

Cheers to Netgalley for making me feel cool.

Last Seen Leaving Vassa in the Night Iron Cast

Last Seen Leaving by Caleb Roehrig [October 4th] – I requested this because it’s a YA thriller and then during further research I found out that it has LGBT themes? I was already excited before, but now I am like a million more times excited. The MC’s girlfriend is missing and he tries to uncover the truth, but has secrets of his own apparently.
Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter [September 20th] – I requested this book a while ago and had no idea it was so anticipated until I saw it in people’s BEA hauls and I felt so cool for actually having a book that all these Big Name BookTubers did 😂 Anyway it’s a fantasy, but almost seems like it could be magical realism because it’s set in Brooklyn and there’s Russian folklore and magic and a shop keeper who beheads shoplifters. It sounds so unique and unlike anything I’ve read before.
Iron Cast by Destiny Soria [October 11th] – I literally requested this yesterday even though I’m drowning in review books but I couldn’t resist that cover! It’s set in a 1919 Boston and is about two girls who are hemopaths and have afflicted blood that can cause illusions through art? I’M SO INTRIGUED. They perform at clubs and con people and just yes? I need to know what this is all about!

What book are you most anticipating? Are you planning to read any of the books I mentioned? Or have you been lucky enough to score ARCs?

Hope you’re all having a wonderful day xx

  1. Ahh so many of these look amazing! I’m really excited about the Lauren Oliver book, and I’m Thinking of Ending Things is on my TBR too as it looks so creepy and I’m so intrigued by such a vague blurb! I also really want to read The Girls, as I’m really interested in anything to do with cults. I’m also now going to check out The Creeper Man and Vassa in the Night as both of those sound really interesting!

  3. I’ve been seeing replica all over booktube and it got me so intrigued about it! I’ve been waiting for the second book in the Magnus Chase series so I could marathon both 1 and 2. 😄

      1. I was excited about Replica BEFORE it started getting all the buzz, so…yeah. XD (I know, I know, this isn’t a contest at all–I’m just saying, I’ve been excited about it for like…a long time now!)

  4. Gemina and Replica are also Anticipated Releases for me. I love Lauren Oliver so much! I read Illuminae sometime in April and absolutely fell in love with it. The other books you’ve mentioned I heard of but haven’t read anything else from the authors.

  5. I definitely want Of Fire and Stars and The Girls! 😀
Oooooh I didn’t know the new Magnus Chase was coming out this year! How exciting! I never know about upcoming releases haha.
Lmao “the creeper man”, what a terrible title. 😂

    1. Fingers crossed they’re as good as they sound! I think I’m going to like Of Fire and Stars no matter what though 😂

Haha! I honestly only know because I spend way too much time on Goodreads. And I knowwww. It’s so cringey. Hopefully the book is better 😂

  6. LAUREN OLIVER ❤ I just love that author so, so much, and every one of her books is incredible. Her writing, and her stories… well I'll stop there ahah, I'm a huge fan. So obviously I can't wait for Replica either, that book sounds so, so cool! ❤ ❤

      1. Oh I couldn’t choose, really. I think her latest book, Vanishing Girls, really hit close to home since it’s about siblings relationship, and it was so, so good it brought me to tears. But Delirium -my first book of hers- will always have a special place in my heart, the world-building was brilliant, and the ending so powerful. I hope you’ll read all love all of her books! 🙂

  7. These are some amazing books for the second half of 2016. I am the same with Gemina. I LOVED Illuminae so I cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel, and honestly I feel the same about Three Dark Crowns. I haven’t read Kendare Blake’s Anna series but I did read her Mortal Gods books and now I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next.
My copy of This Savage Song arrived yesterday and I cannot wait to start it. V.E. Schwab has quickly become one of my all-time favourite authors and I know I’m going to love This Savage Song as much as I have all her other books.
Great post Lauren, you’ve definitely given me some more books I need to look up when they’re released too! 😀

    1. I can’t even express how excited I am for Gemina. I need it more than air 😂 I really recommend the Anna series and I need to get to the Mortal Gods books. I have had Antigoddess on my shelf forever, haha.

Ohh that’s so cool!! I hope you enjoy it. I’m so excited to read all of her books.

      1. I suppose it’s not too much longer now, we’ve only got to wait until October!
I have the Anna series on my to-read list, just gotta find the time to get around to it. I would recommend the Mortal Gods series, I love Greek mythology so I thought these were great books with a really interesting take on the Gods. 😀

  8. I am really, really excited for Gemina! I absolutely fell in love with Illuminae! That is probably my most anticipated release for the entire year (that, and Empire of Storms). Great post! 🙂

  9. Great post though the list isn’t so short 😛 Gemina is also my most anticipated release of the year (along with the winner’s kiss and acomaf actually but since the two has already out so…). I heard there would be a new document format which we’ve never seen before and I’m super excited!! I’m also excited for Vassa in the Night, haven’t got a lot of experiences reading Russian folklore but I think this would probably be awesome ❤ I have a bunch of other books on my list but I’m saving them for the next Top 10 Tuesday, it’s top 10 most anticipated releases for the 2nd half of the year! 😀

    1. I’m not good when it comes to short 😂

Omg yes I’m so so so excited for Gemina and to see what the new document is!!!!

I don’t think I’ve read anything with Russian folklore so I’m really excited to dive in.

That is probably why I should look at the topics in advance 😂😂 Oh well, this can be me my Top Ten Tuesday posted on a Saturday that mentions 16 books instead 😆

  10. Eep, I admit I’ve actually never read Illuminae. I totally planned to back when it was this thing everyone couldn’t stop talking about… and then I kept putting it off and now for some reason I’m just not interested anymore. 😛

Also super excited for Three Dark Crowns and This Savage Song! I also have Last Seen Leaving on my NetGalley shelf… planning to read it soon but seeing as the release date is quite far away I might put it off. Looking forward to your thoughts on it!

    1. I guess I can forgive you 😎 If you ever change your mind though I feel like it is one book that’s definitely worth the hype.

I hope they’re both as good as they sound! I’m really good at putting ARCs off 🙈 but I keep requesting more 😅

          1. I knooow. Maybe it’s my eyes that are bad but even with all the turning my iPad I still couldn’t read it nicely. Also I generally don’t really like books that make you work too much to get to the story, haha. #lazy

  11. Great list! I’m looking forward to Gemina, What the Dead Want, The Hammer of Thor, The Female of the Species, and Vassa in the Night. Unfortunately, I read an ARC for Three Dark Crowns and it was horrible. I hope you like it a WHOLE lot better than I did. The Girls was not bad, but not great. I hope you like that one more than I did as well!! 😀

  12. Oh I still really, really need to read Illuminae! Must get on that soon so I can read Gemina too 🙂
And a big YES to every single one of your fantasy picks – I want to read them all!
I don’t often read thrillers or horror but I should expand my reading horizon a bit though – perhaps starting with one of these!

    1. Ahh, yess!!! I really hope you love iIluminae. I’m kinda bias but I think it’s amazing 😊

They’re my fave genres so I’m always about encouraging others to read them! If you decide to give them (or any other books in the genre) a go I hope you enjoy them!

  13. So many amazing books on this list! Cannot wait to read most of them. I had not heard of Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter and now I must check it out. I am really excited to (finally) read Illuminae and then Gemina and Replica as well.

  17. Hi, Fab blog! I have just set up mine, but still in the very early stages – a few months old. Just making efforts to link in with fellow bloggers to improve our followers and get the word out there for us both. I would appreciate you having a peek at my blog, as I have published several posts. Feel free to like, comment, follow or just take a peek. Thank you 🙂

  18. I am so bookmarking this post and amending my TBR. I love your enthusiasm – the way you describe Illuminae is just the best (hehe, the reason the blog exists – perfection). I am not quite up to date on YA but I do love a good one in the genre once in a while, so this will be IT for me this summer 🙂 Also love your Thrillers and Horrors lists – I also have The Girls up next as well as And The Trees Crept In. Thank you! Wonderful list 🙂

It was soooo good and you will enjoy it very much. I didnt know going in that it had LGBT themes but you are right when you say it makes the book that much better
