Reppin’ the Southern Hemisphere // The Autumn Book Tag

The Autumn Book Tag

The amazing Reg @ She Latitude tagged me to do this (make sure to follow her blog if you’re not already because it’s wonderful) and I was like “Oh I have PLENTY of time to post it before Autumn is over” but then I realise that no, no I don’t. Autumn is over in 2 days and then finally my favourite season ever can begin. I love that most of the world is excited that it’s finally summer and I’m like: “YES WINTER”. Anyway, there’s still 2 days left of Autumn so – better late than never, right?

Also, I’m like dying with the flu or something so this post and any subsequent comments I make (or have made) might not make a whole lot of sense 😅

What is your favorite thing about autumn?

The fact that I no longer have to worry about whether I’m actually going to die of heat exhaustion lmao. The average temperature for summer in my town is 42C-46C degrees and this summer we even had 2 days of 47C-48C (both days were the hottest recorded temperature in the world for that day). I’m so excited to actually feel cold and be able to wear clothes that I feel comfortable in. SWEATERS! And being able to be all wrapped up in bed under my blankets and with my dog. Autumn is just also such a pretty month. I love looking at photos of the woods in Autumn.

What book reminds you of your school days?

Does this mean books I read in school? Or books that remind me of my school experience? I can’t really think of any books that reminded me of school… I didn’t really have the most positive school experience. If we’re talking about books I read in school then GoosebumpsHarry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and this Australian book series called Aussie Angels by Margaret Clarke about this brother and sister whose parents ran a wildlife center and they rescued animals and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

What cover reminds you of autumn?

Autumn

This was surprisingly harder than I thought it would be. There are so many Summer, Winter and Spring themed covers but hardly any for Autumn. I literally only chose Illuminae because it’s orange 😅

Say Her Name by Juno DawsonWhat is your favourite horror or Halloween story?

Technically Halloween is celebrated in Spring here, but I wish it was all year long. Australia also does not celebrate Halloween enough for my liking. It’s slowly getting there, but I need more! Anyway, to answer the ACTUAL question my favourite kind of Halloween urban legend is Bloody Mary. It’s the only one that really scares me for some reason, but I also find it super interesting. I don’t know the idea of a creepy girl coming out of your mirror is pretty terrifying to me. Say Her Name by Juno Dawson is a great modern take on the Bloody Mary legend. It actually made me scared to look in a mirror for ages. As well as the Supernatural episode that focused on Bloody Mary. That scared the hell out of me lmao. I LOVE all kinds of creepy/scary stories though! The creepier the better!

What is your favourite horror or Halloween film?

ALL OF THEM? Horror is my favourite genre in the entire world. I even love those overly cheesy ones.I’m really bad at remembering what movies I’ve watched, but I love all the “classics” like Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween and Friday the 13thThe Ring and The Grudge are two of my favourites and some of the first horrors I watched. I appreciated the first Paranromal Activity movie, but then after that it was all kind of downhill, haha. The Conjuring terrified me to the point where I actually was laying on my lounge room floor and had to stop the movie and go back to it the next day. The Uninvited is probably my all time favourite. Ohhh and It FollowsCabin in the Woods and Evil Dead. I love all sorts of teen slasher movies too. They’re my weakness. There’s probably so many I’ve forgotten, but my head hurts.

Fun Halloween movie wise though it without a doubt has to be HOCUS POCUS. I watch this every Halloween without fail. It is the GREATEST movie ever.

The Special Ones by Em Bailey The May Queen Murders by Sarah JudeWhat fall book release are you looking forward to?

Since all the autumn books have been released I’m going with two past released that I’m super excited to read! These are both thrillers and the concepts seem so interesting. Em Bailey wrote one of my favourite books ever (Shift) and the cover of The May Queen Murders is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in my life.

What autumn movie release are you anticipating?

This was 100% Captain America: Civil War and it was wonderful. I loved it so much. Wanda is the love of my life and Bucky is my son. #TeamCap forever tbh. It’s the first movie I’ve watched in forever and the first time I went to the cinema in over a year. Told you, I’m not a movie watcher haha.

What are the three books you plan to read this autumn?

Well since Autumn is over in 2 days I don’t think I’ll be finishing any books 😂 I did already mention my current/upcoming reads in a tag the other day. In case you missed it I’m currently reading Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor and Wrecked by Maria Padian. After that I’ll be reading Cinder by Marissa Meyer and A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab unless I change my mind which could be extremely likely.

Not tagging anyone because Autumn is pretty much officially over everywhere and because I’m really to go collapse into bed with my Strepsils and box of tissues. Feel free to do it if you want though!

I hope you’re all having a fantastic day xx

  1. God I can’t imagine it being that hot over in the UK, we don’t even get temperatures that high in the height of summer! I’d be craving colder autumn weather as well if I lived over there!
I’m really not a fan of horror films (I saw Silence of the Lambs way too young and it scarred me, I just can’t watch anything like that now!) but oh I loved Captain America: Civil War, it was such a brilliant film, and yes #TeamCap all the way! 😀
Also I hope you feel better really really soon! It can’t be nice feeling that ill :/

    1. Haha, I know! I’m so jealous of countries that have summers colder than our winters 😂 Although I don’t think I could handle how cold it could possibly get over there!

That sort of happened with me too except it was The Shining and it terrified me, along with this horror game my parents used to play on the Playstation, haha. It had the opposite affect on me though and made me become really intrigued by it. I’m a total wuss though and even though I love horror it scares me really easily. I’m especially bad with jump scares.

Yes!! I want to watch it again!!

      Thank you ♥

      1. I’m jealous of countries that have warm summers 🙂 it’s all well and good until your walking down the street in June and it’s really cold, and windy, and rainy, and just not nice weather in general!
God I am the same, horribly bad at jump scares! And I’ve never gotten over my fear of horror movies. The last one I saw at the cinema I actually had to leave early because it was freaking me out so much. I spent half the film with my iPod and Kindle on and even still I left the cinema before it ended!
        I’ve already pre-ordered the DVD! 😀

        1. Haha!! I can imagine that must get quite frustrating. I do think I’d take that over feeling like I live in a volcano though 😂 It’s so funny how we always want the opposite of what we have!

Aww noo!! What movie was it?? I rarely see horror movies in the cinema because I know I’ll end up screaming hah.

          Ahh, yay!!!

          1. Ideally it’d be something in the middle; hot in the summer and cold in the winter but yeah I think I agree, I’d take cold summers over volcano ones 😀
It was one of the Saw films, I can’t remember which one but probably the most recent one that was out at the cinema(?) I’m not a fan of horror films in general and that was one of the worst I think :/

            1. Haha, that would be ideal!

I love the Saw movies 🙈 well the first few anyway. They all kind of got a bit redundant after that. I definitely understand why you’d feel freaked out though! They are extremely gory. It’s not something I’d even want to see at a cinema, haha

              1. I was terrified! I think I started watching through my hands and when that wasn’t enough I got out my Kindle and iPod to distract me and when that still wasn’t enough I had to leave the cinema. I am a complete whimp when it comes to horror films. I just can’t stand the blood and gore!

                Like

                1. Sometimes I even think the blood and gore can be overdone in horrors. It doesn’t bother me, but I much prefer horror movies with as less special effects as possible. It’s why I really enjoyed the first Paranormal Activity and why The Conjuring terrified me because they were scarily realistic, haha.

                  1. Ohh, I did really enjoy the Paranormal Activity films, as little blood and gore as possible but still really scary. Sometimes I think too much can just come out the other side, it isn’t scary just really horrfiying you know?!

  2. OH MY GOD, 42-46C degrees. I die at 35, I can’t imagine 46, haha. I’m also so excited for sweaters but I’m now feeling like I need more wintry things to wear – sweaters are all I have. What ELSE do people wear??

Also I know you might change your mind but I’m sooo excited for you to read A Darker Shade of Magic, even if you’re not, haha. I really loved that series. 🙂

    1. I honestly can’t handle anything over 30C so I’m really surprised that I manage to survive 😅 I know what you mean! I love beanies and boots. I know people do scarves, but I don’t think I could pull that off, haha. I’d like to try more jackets, but they’re normally more pricey than sweaters and I’m a cheapskate 😅!

I am really excited to read it!! I’m pretty sure I’ll be reading it really soon because I want to know what it’s all about!

      1. LAUREN! It’s 2 degrees today. I love winter but sometimes I wish it’s not that hard to get out of bed, haha.

Scarves are kind of my life and blood in winter. I love them, though admittedly I probably wear the same things over and over again, just because I’m lazy. I have WAY too many jackets than I need but I also don’t wear most of them. I need to learn to be more… useful. To my clothes. Yup.

Sorry I’m actually not sure what the point of this whole comment is, HAHA. Hope you have a good day. ❤

        1. Oh gosh!!! I don’t think it’s ever been that cold here. We did have 7 degrees once, but that was at night 😅

Ohh, it’s so cool that you can do scarves. I’ve tried and it just looks a mess haha. I always wear the same outfits too because of laziness (and also for me because I don’t know how to fashion).

Haha!! No worries!! I loved reading it 😊 and despite this annoying flu my days been alright. Hope yours has been good too ❤️

          1. So is it just generally warmer where you are? Melb gets crazy bipolar weather so we get the heat and we also get the chill. :p

I think I can do only certain types of scarves… but I do think part of wearing something and feeling like it is kind of just being comfortable with what you wear.

Hope your flu gets better soon! I had just healed from a six-week cough so I can sympathise. 😂

            1. I live up north on the coast in WA so I think so unfortunately 😅 like all this week it’s going to be mid 20s, but considering our average temperature is in the 40s I suppose that is quite cold haha.

Ahh, yes definitely! I have so much respect for people who are comfortable with themselves! I’m not quite there, but one day!!

Thank you ❤️ Oh god, that sounds awful!! I have quite a bad cough too so I hope it doesn’t last quite that long haha.

  3. I totally get what you mean about wanting colder weather. Like holy shit, 48C? That’s insane.
Haha I watched the Supernatural episode about Bloody Mary with a friend and we were both terrified. 😂

    1. Haha, I know! Fortunately it was only 2 days but I never want to deal with it again 😂

It was the first episode I ever watched and I made the mistake of watching it alone in my room in the dark. I quickly learnt from my mistakes. It’s still one of my favourites though and still scares me haha.

      1. I remember my friend telling me that it was scary and me just being terrified even before the episode had started. 😀

  5. Oh my god, I can’t imagine reading a book about Bloody Mary. She used to scare me so damn much when I was younger!! I’m honestly not that into horror stories 😛 Ooh, A Walk to Remember! Never read that one, but I definitely want to read all Nicholas Sparks books before I die, lol. Wonderful answers!!

    1. Haha, I love scaring myself 😅 I read it quite a while ago and all I can remember is that it made me cry haha. I’m not huge into the romance contemporaries anymore so it’s probably a good thing I read it when I did haha.

  6. Loved reading this tag 🙂 I hope you get well soon!
I used to love horror films but at some point I began to be a scaredy-cat 😦 I did watch the Conjuring and liked it though! I’m also planning to watch The VVitch because it seems like I could endure it all by myself. Let’s see how that goes.

  7. I agree! Australia needs to vamp up on their Halloween (see what I did there)! It would be so much more fun if more people were all in the same spirit 🙂

Say Her Name seems like such a great book, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I really need to get that book in my hands. I’ve only read Cruel Summer by James Dawson but it was so fun and great, I can’t wait to read more.

I love all your movie choices 🙂 I need to get to watching a lot of them! I remember seeing a bit of the Grudge as a kid while my parents were watching it and it freaked me out so much! I think it was The Grudge 3? Yeah, LOTS of running up the stairs after I turned out the lights 😉 I agree with Paranormal Activity. I think the movies afterwards were all disappointing. I WILL need to check out the Uninvited. Sounds great! I also really liked the Cabin in the Woods, I can’t recommend it to people enough!

    1. Edit that! I just did a quick search of the Uninvited and I have indeed watched it! I remember being so shocked at the movie and it was SO GOOD! Completely understand why its a fave! I definitely need to go back and re-watch that one soon!

    2. Haha!!! 😂😂 I love a good pun. I know right! Quite a few people were trick and treating in my area, but still not enough. I want Australia to go all out like the US does because Halloween is honestly my favourite time of the year.

It’s soooooo good. I rarely get scared by horror books, but this one definitely freaked me out. It was also really fun too! I’m pretty sure I read it in like 2 days also.

I’m glad you loved The Univited 😊 I really need to rewatch it. Haha, The Grudge definitely freaked me out the first time I saw it. I was like The Cabin in the Woods is another one that I need to rewatch!

      1. All I have is a few kids that go around together in my neighbourhood – its a small street so we don’t get a lot *cries* If only! It would be so awesome if they did!

I’ve read a few horror novels but they don’t often scare me, I’m exceed to pick this one up!

There are so many horror movies to watch and rematch, I can’t wait 🙂 If you have anymore recommendations you should definitely push them my way 😉

        1. Aw, no!! I hope you get more this year!!

Yeah I always feel left out when people talk about books scaring them because that never happens for me 😅

The Haunting in Connecticut and The Amityville Horror are another two of my favourites! Also, they’re not really horrors as such but I also love The Last House on the Left, The Strangers and The Purge!

  8. I hope you are feeling better Lauren! Hugs from across the world, where it’s summer (and way too hot as well).

ALSO: YAY!! for Halloween and horror 🙂 I loooooooove being scared for some reason though I know a lot of people hate horror for just that reason. And Hocus Pocus – so true! I also really like The Nightmare Before Christmas which is also really more about Halloween 🙂
