Firstly to all the amazing mothers out there

Happy Mother's Day

whether you’re a birth mother, step mother, guardian, a mother who’s lost a child or hasn’t been able conceive, a child with an absent mother figure or even a dad ect. this day is for you and you are all equally important and valid. my stepmum has been part of my life since I was 2 and to me she is my mum. I hope you all have a wonderful day!!

Once again, this has been a bit of a weird week for me. I had a doctor’s appointment the other day about my mental health and that always throws me. Waiting rooms are the actual worst. I’ve spent most of this week reading The Hidden Oracle and listening to The Maine’s Forever Halloween album (they’re one of my favourite bands and you should check them out).

For some reason whenever I’m typing these wrap up posts I immediately forget everything I’ve done? I mean not that much is done 😂 but still.

Anyway, THIS IS A THING THAT HAPPENED and I am really overwhelmed

I feel like every post I’m thanking all of you, but seriously: Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are all so AMAZING.

PHYSICAL COPIES

The Girl on the Train, The Hidden Oracle, The Outliers

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

The Odyssey, The Iliad

The Girl on the Train by Paula HawkinsThe Hidden Oracle by Rick RiordanThe Outliers by Kimberly McCreightThe Odyssey & The Iliad by Homer

Shout out to my Target store for miraculously being up to date on new releases. I managed to resist buying A Court of Mist and Fury, but obviously I did purchase other books so does that count as self control? I’m going with yes. The Girl on the Train has red page trimmings which is like 90% of the reason why I bought it, not even going to lie. I’ve never owned a book with coloured page trimmings so now I do, yay! I mean I do also want to read it, haha. I’ve already finished The Hidden Oracle and it was PERFECT. Seriously, it was everything I wanted and more. I am in love with Apollo. The book hangover is beyond real. All I want to do is reread the Percy Jackson books or books with Greek mythology. Even though I had zero plans to read it this month The Hidden Oracle left me seriously wanting to read The Song of Achilles so that could be happening, haha. I mentioned in my Intimidating TBR tag that I’m super excited for The Outliers because even though the reviews haven’t been great YA thrillers are my weakness. I picked up used copies of The Odyssey and The Iliad from my local markets and I’m super excited. I had them both on my Kindle, but now I have physical copies! And they were only like $5 so!

EBOOKS

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo The May Queen Murders by Sarah Jude These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

Shadow and Bone was $5 so I was like: “why not”. I spoke about The May Queen Murders in my May TBR post and I’m so excited and I can’t stop staring at how gorgeous the cover is. I’ve been meaning to read These Broken Stars forever and I heard it’s being made into a TV show? So I need to read it before that happens! Also, you all know light contemporaries aren’t usually my thing but THE DOGS and everyone’s love for Morgan Matson convinced me to buy The Unexpected Everything.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller The Girl in 6E by A.R. Torre Rat Queens, Vol. 1: Sass & Sorcery by Kurtis J. Wiebe

So, like I said above The Hidden Oracle left me with the biggest need to read The Song of Achilles. I’ve heard great things about it so even if I don’t get to it this month I can’t wait to read it! I’m a huge fan of all things dark and thrillers and The Girl in 6E was only $6 so again I was like “WHY NOT!”, haha. I’ve been wanting to read Rat Queens for some time now and I’ve seen lots of great reviews recently so I decided to finally get it!

FREEBIES / FOR REVIEW

The Neverland Wars by Audrey Greathouse Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter The Prophecy of Shadows by Michelle Madow Curse of the Sphinx by Raye Wagner

The Neverland Wars and Vassa in the Night are from Netgalley. I’m so weak for Peter Pan retellings I had to grab The Neverland Wars, I’m hoping it won’t disappoint! Ever since I finished The Raven Cycle series I’ve been in the mood for more weird, magical realism and Vassa in the Night sounds like it’ll give me both so I grabbed that too! The Prophecy of Shadows and Curse of the Sphinx were free offers from the authors (Michelle Madow / Raye Wagner) via their websites for signing up to their newsletters. I’m not sure when I’ll get to them but they were both on my TBR and free so like I’m going to say no???

  2. CONGRATS ON 200!!

Coincidentally, I have a meeting with a new psychiatrist about my mental health next week, and it definitely has been stressing me out and giving me major anxiety. I hope everything went well for you (:

The Song of Achilles is an absolute all time favorite for me, so I really hope you like it!

    1. Thanks so much 😀

Ahh it’s the worst. I’m supposed to be seeing a psychologist, but I keep backing out at the last minute. I’m hoping to feel ready soon-ish though. I hope everything goes well for you ♥

I’m sure I’m going to love it. I’ve heard great things about it!!

  3. I’ve always wondered – are The Odyssey and The Iliad big books?
Also yay for The Hidden Oracle! Can’t wait for your review.
Dogs are definitely a good reason to buy a book.

        1. According to Google they’re both under 150k words. I don’t think they’d be a quick read though, for me personally anyway because I’m soo not used to classical language. My editions both have introduction essays too which I normally end up skipping over 😅

  4. Congratulations on the 200! I’m so so happy for you! 🙂 I hope you enjoy reading The Iliad and The Odyssey. The red sprayed edges are wonderful! Let me know if you like The Girl on The Train – I’ve been meaning to read that one 🙂

    1. Thanks so much, Fatima ❤️ I’m really excited to read them both. I love Greek mythology and I’ve been meaning to read them forever! Right, I couldn’t resist buying it once I saw them haha. I’ll definitely have a review up once I get to it 😊

  5. Coloured pages was the main reason I picked up Six of Crows, to be honest here. Only later did I actually double check the plot. Luckily it seems it’s gonna be awesome so, win! It’s hard to resist pretty books. I don’t JUDGE books by their covers, but pretty things DO pique my interest rather quickly.

Look at you, hitting all the milestones! Good job!! I’m throwing ALL THE CONFETTI!!!♡♡

    1. It was such a good read! I’m a little obsessed with the world of Percy Jackson haha. I’m excited to read it 😃 I loved Amie’s writing in Illuminae so I’m really interested to see how These Broken Stars is! Plus the cover is gorgeous 😍

      Thank you!

  6. I love the red page trimmings on Girl on the Train, I didn’t know they did that! I know I’ve seen really old books in used bookstores that have trimmings like that, I saw one once that had purple (and some used to have cigarette advertisements IN the book)! Weird…

The Maine’s sound kinda good, will have to check them out. Have a good week!

    1. It’s so great! I’ve seen it with hardcovers a bit. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo has black trimmings, but I didn’t really know they did it often with paperbacks so it was awesome to see 😊 Haha, that is so strange! Purple page trimmings would be awesome though.

Ah, I’m glad to hear you like their sound! All their albums are on Spotify if you ever want to hear more! And thank you!

  7. I love the cover of The Mayqueen Murders. And the Iliad is my favorite book of all time. You got some good prices on your books. I want to write a novel inspired by it someday. Congrats on 200 followers! That’s so awesome!

    1. The May Queen cover is so gorgeous 😍 I hope a paperback is available soon because I need a physical copy haha. I might even splurge on a hardcover if there isn’t because I love it so much. Ahh so good to hear that you loved The Iliad. I’m super excited to read it! A book based on it would be such a great idea! And thank you so much ❤️

  8. Congratulations on reaching 200 followers, and I hope that doctor’s visit wasn’t too bad. 🙂

Also that copy of The Girl on the Train looks fabulous. I’ve seen it a couple of times but never the one with red trimmings. 😛

And yaaay for The Unexpected Everything! I just started it last night and it’s entertaining so far – hope you enjoy it as well.

I couldn’t believe it when my local Target store had it, haha. They never normally have anything interesting like that. I couldn’t resist it once I saw the pages 😂

Yay! So glad to hear you’re enjoying it! I’ve heard great things so hopefully I will too 😊

  10. CONGRATULATIONS ON 200 FOLLOWERS! Your blog is so great and well put together, you’ll be at three hundred in no time:D
That edition of The Girl On The Train is niiiiice! Coloured edge pages are literally the best. I think I only have two books with coloured pages- publishers should really be pushing for more books with them.
I really need to get Song of Achilles. It sounds so good!
