BOOK TAG: F.R.I.E.N.D.S

tfbt

Before we get to the tag I just wanna give a special shout out to my favourite person in the entire universe. A lovely friend of mine, Sheridan, just started a blog; Sleepless and Battleworn. It’s going to be where she posts her thoughts and feelings about various things and lemme tell you she is an incredible writer. So if you’re into that sorta thing go give her a follow. She’s honestly the most amazing person ever and also helped inspire me to get back into reading. Her first post is here. I’m not even lying when I say I could read her writing forever.

Okay, back to the tag!

I was tagged to do this by the lovely Fadwa @ Word Wonders. She’s the best and you should definitely give her blog a follow.

I have a confession: I’ve only watched a handful of F.R.I.E.N.D.S episodes. Please don’t hurt me. It’s just never something I got into. I have enjoyed the episodes I’ve seen though and maybe one day I’ll eventually get around to binge watching the entire series.

Find a book that applies to the scenario based on various F.R.I.E.N.D.S episode titles

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra BrackenTHE ONE WHERE EDDIE WON’T GO: A CHARACTER I WISH WOULD JUST GO AWAY

Clancy Gray from The Darkest Minds series. Oh my god. Words can not express how much I hated him. What he did to Ruby in The Darkest Minds was AWFUL. He was so annoying and manipulative. I wished I could have punched him in the face. I understand he went through some awful things but

Also, Paul Slater from The Mediator series by Meg Cabot. Ugh. GROSS. Get away from Suze! And me.

THE ONE WHERE ROSS AND RACHEL TAKE A BREAK: FAVORITE BREAK UP SCENE

There’s only one book I’ve read that I can really remember a break up scene in and I don’t want to talk about that because #spoilers.

Crush by Richard Siken

THE ONE WITH ALL THE KISSING: A BOOK WITH LOTS OF KISSING

Okay, so I’m sort of cheating with this one. I rarely read romance books or new adult books and those are definitely the biggest genres that involve kissing. I’m going with Crush which is a collection of poetry about love, sex, relationships and everything in between. There’s definitely mentions of kissing in here so it totally counts. Anyway, this is an incredibly beautiful collection of poetry that you should all read.

The Last Olympian by Rick RiordanTHE LAST ONE: FAVORITE SERIES FINALE

I wanted to chose something other than Deathly Hallows. The ending to Percy Jackson and  the Olympians was perfect. It had everything and more. I cried so much. I loved all these characters and this series is so important to me and just oh my god, I’m so happy with how it ended. I mean I wish it never had to, but yeah. It was just PERFECT.

Another possible choice was In The Afterlight by Alexanra Bracken. God that ending was so perfect and beautiful. So incredibly fitting and I was so happy.

THE ONE WITH A BLACKOUT: A SCENE I’D LIKE TO FORGET

THE ONE WHERE CHANDLER CAN’T CRY:  A BOOK THAT DID NOT MAKE YOU AS EMOTIONAL AS OTHERS

Yeah, I don’t have an answer for this either. I cry over anything and everything.

THE ONE WHERE JOEY DOESN’T SHARE FOOD: A BOOK YOU WON’T EVER LEND

I don’t think I’d have this problem because I don’t know anyone irl who loves reading, but if I did I think I’d be really protective of my books and not want to give any of them out in case I never got them back. I 100% wouldn’t lend any of my Percy Jackson or Harry Potter books Oh and Illuminae. No way am I ever letting that epitome of perfection out of my sight.

THE ONE WITH THE THUMB: A RECENT READ THAT YOU WOULD GIVE TWO THUMBS UP TO

Nimona by Noelle Stevenson The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater

I AM FOREVER RUINED BECAUSE OF THESE TWO BOOKS.

FOREVER

RUINED

My heart and soul vacated my body and they still have not returned.

I will hopefully have a review up for Nimona tomorrow!

THE ONE WITH THE ICK FACTOR: A BOOK WITH A PET PEEVE

I can’t think of one particular book so I’ll just list a few tropes that drive me absolutely crazy:

  • Love Triangles
  • Instalove
  • Problematic issues that get romanticised instead of being properly addressed and portrayed
  • Awful male characters who get away with their behaviour because they’re “hot”
  • MCs with mental illnesses who are instantly cured the moment they meet their love interest

reactions stop enough do not want no way

Young Avengers by Kieron GillenTHE ONE WITH THE LESBIAN WEDDING: FAVORITE LGBTQ BOOK COUPLE

Teddy and Billy from Young Avengers. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. I chose Kieron Gillen’s run because he did such an amazing job with both of them. They’re just so cute and angst-y at all the right times and ahh, its just so awesome seeing diversity in comics. I seriously wish there were more Young Avengers comics because I need more of Teddy and Billy in my life please and thanks @ Marvel.

I tag:

Anyone who loves F.R.I.E.N.D.S and needs something to post!

(Sorry, I still have SO many tags and I don’t wanna over do it)

Also, I’m really behind on posts because I was on babysitting duty today and my younger siblings were being more annoying than usual, haha. I was like “I have a blog to run!” but they didn’t seem to care 😂

I’d love to hear your thoughts on any of the books I talked about! I hope you’re all having a fantastic day xx

  1. Yaay I’m glad you got around to doing it so soon ❤ I feel like we’re both going to get killed for not watching friends, but well 😂
And yeah, the Dream Thieves, though I still have to start that series (soon I promise, I have the 2 first books lurking at me right now) I read your tweets and laughed so hard haha because I can relate. Those book tropes you listed are just a big NO to me.
Great answers I love them ❤

  2. I believe I have seen Friends TWICE all the way through and I never get tired of it.

I totally get why you won’t ever lend Illuminae – that cover is stunning! Personally, I would lend my Harry Potter books because I have so many different editions of them haha.

I also don’t like “Instalove” and love triangles. Love at first sight was cool during Jane Austen’s time, but not today…

    1. Haha, that’s so good! I really should watch it because I know everyone loves it.

Ooh that’s so cool. I only have my old, battered editions so that’s why I wouldn’t lend mine because they have way too much of a personal connection.

Ah, right! I hate that it’s such a common trope in YA.

  3. Don’t worry, I haven’t watched a lot of FRIENDS as well. I just haven’t had the time for it to be honest!
Hahahaha so you didn’t like the epilogue for Harry Potter, why? I’m neutral on it, but the whole Albus Severus still irks me loads!
I have a two sets of the HP series, the beautiful hardcovers and the battered, mix matched ones. So you know which ones I’ll be giving for borrowing purposes hahaha,

    1. So glad I’m not alone.

I’m not really a fan of epilogue’s in general. With Deathly Hallows I feel like the ending of the very last chapter was perfect. Also for extremely petty non-important reasons I’m not a fan of any of the canon ships so 😂

Haha, I only have my old, battered ones which I’d never lend because I have too much of a personal connection to them. I have been thinking about buying another set though for aesthetic reasons.

  4. This is such a great tag! And I loved all your answers too 😀
Urgh I totally agree about Paul Slater, he doesn’t get any better in Remembrance either, I just wanted to send him far far away from Suze and Jesse for the whole book! Also I wouldn’t lend anyone my copy of Illuminae either, or any of my Harry Potter books, there are just some books you won’t ever let out of your site aren’t there?
I completely agree about love triangles, they are definitely my pet peeve as well. Really not a fan of them.

    1. Thank you, Beth!

Ughhh. Boo! I had a feeling though considering his appearance in Proposal. He’s the worst.

Yes, definitely! I may only have my old and battered copies of Harry Potter, but I have such a personal connection with them I never want to let them go.

They’re the worst! It sucks that they’re such a common trope among YA.

      1. If you didn’t like him in the original series you won’t like him in Remembrance!
Same here actually, my copy of the first book is practically falling apart but I’m still not letting it out of my sight! There are just some books you don’t aren’t there!

        Like

        1. Yeah I definitely didn’t like him in the original series. Ahh well sometimes it’s good to have that one character you hate to vent your anger on to 😂

Ooh that’s like my copy of Order of the Phoenix the spine is sooo damaged because of how many times I read it, but I’m never getting rid of it.

          1. Oh yes, there needs to be one character you don’t like, one to add some tension to the story and between the characters. If it wasn’t Paul it would have been someone else!
My copy of Philosophers Stone is kind of discoloured and faded I’ve had it so long. The rest I have in hardcover so they’ve stood the test of time a little better 😀

  5. YESS whenever I see Percy Jackson I’m immdeiately happy.

THOSE ARE MY PET PEEVES TOO! (I apologize for the screaming.)
Okay imagine this: there’s a love triangle – one of the characters being a girl with a mental illness. Suddenly, lo and behold, a hot bad boy comes along who has “family issues” and a “dysfunctional home life” which the girl loves because she finds herself falling in love with his imperfections. SO with the power of instalove, she’s suddenly cured and the guy’s problems are solved. The end. HOW CRINGE-Y DOES IT GET? The sad thing is that there is probably a book like this out there. I’m not trying to bash on books but it’s just… not my favourite types. Let’s just put it at that haha. Not that I CAN’T. It just has to be done right. When it comes to contemporary romance, Rainbow Rowell always does it right, even if it was instalove, she somehow just does it!

    1. It’s 100% my happy place. I feel so comforted whenever I read it.

Haha, no, don’t apologise. My blog is a Screaming Friendly Zone! Oh GOD. Just reading that made me feel nauseous. I can definitely see that plot being a book that exists. One that I will definitely be staying far, far away from haha.

I really need to read some of Rainbow’s books!!

  6. So agree with Instalove, awful male characters who get away with bad behavior cos they’re ‘hot’ and MCs whose mental health problems are magically resolved by a relationship that comes out of nowhere! Preachhhhhh! X

    Like

        1. Riiight!! I know there’s a few out there, but definitely not as much as I’d like. I think it’s why I tend to stay away from the more ‘realistic’ contemporaries unless they’ve been getting really good reviews from people whose judgement I trust.

          Liked by 1 person

          1. Totally! I’ve been put off of a few new releases/hyped releases recently after reviews have mentioned there being dubious consent or unhealthy relationships between MCs. It can completely ruin an otherwise great book, so I’m totally with ya on waiting for reviews from people who you trust!

  7. I’ve never cared for friends either, you’re not alone!!

I’m also a fan of your decision to use Brooklyn-Nine-Nine & Taylor Swift gifs. These are my life & I love you now for that choice.

    INFINITE HUGS!!

          1. Right??? We could Taylor dance parties, scary story nights, you could take me on one of your paranormal outings, I could cry & tell you how I’m never doing that again….ahhh IT’D BE A MAGICAL FRIENDSHIP

  8. I completely agree with you about The Last Olympian being an amazing series finale! The action just started from the very beginning and didn’t stop until the end. It was such a great end to a wonderful series. But I think my favourite series finale would have to be either Winter or Clockwork Princess.

  9. Yay I love Friends! Such a cute little show. 😀 You should totally binge-watch it.
Also yes the Percy Jackson ending was perfect! His wish for the gods was SO GREAT. What a hero.
Oh and I really wanna read Young Avengers! One of the few comics I’m interested in. 🙂

  10. OmG. Let me address one of your pet peeves! I absolutely DETEST books with mental illnesses that are suddenly cured with the meeting of the LI.. like are you freaking kidding me?? hahahha that’s why I was lowkey mad at Everything Everything (SPOILER IF YOU Haven’t READ).

    Like

    1. Right! It’s the worst!!! That’s 100% not how it works. I would love to see a book that actually addresses the struggles of being in a friendship/relationship when you suffer from a mental illness – they’re not automatically cured because you met this “special” person. And haha, that’s okay! I actually wasn’t planning on reading that book!
