BOOK TAG: Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger Hunt Book Tag

I was tagged by the wonderful Ravenclaw Book Club! Thanks so much for tagging me in this, it was a lot of fun 😀 It also made me realise that I REALLY need to tidy up my bookshelves 😂

Basically, you have to find a book on your shelves that fits the categories. After some research I found that this tag was originally created by The Library of Sarah, but the video has since been deleted.

We are going to conveniently ignore that I haven’t read like any of these books 🙂 I don’t think we need to write commentary on the books we chose, but I can’t help myself so… This ended up a lot longer than it probably should have been. Sorry 🙈

Zeroes by Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan & Deborah BiancottiFind a book with the letter ‘Z’ in its title or the author’s name.

Zeroes by Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan & Deborah Biancotti

I haven’t actually read anything Scott Westerfeld’s wrote. The Uglies series has been on my TBR forever though and I really want to read it eventually. This was a spur of the moment buy because I found the concept interesting. If something is about people having powers then I’m a fan.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-GlassFind me a classic.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carrol

I actually only own two physical copies of classics, this and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (which I haven’t read), so it’s why I chose Alice. I actually haven’t read Through the Looking Glass yet, but I love Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland so, so, so much. I find the concept of Wonderland so fascinating. This place that on the outside seems so wondrous and magical, but is actually a lot darker and messed up than it appears. I think it’s something that can be applied to so many different situations. I absolutely adore Alice as I character. I definitely relate to her so much and I’m kicking myself for not including her in my Myself in 5 Characters Book Tag. I love the Disney movie, I love the Tim Burton movie, I love the Syfy mini-series. If something is Alice related or a retelling then I’m going to 100% be interested in it.

Blind Date by R.L. StineFind the oldest book on your shelves.

Blind Date by R.L. Stine

I’m not sure if this means oldest as in owned or oldest as in published, but since I’m using the oldest book I own for something else I’m going with published 😉 I am saddened and ashamed to admit that a lot of my childhood books did not make or survive the insane amount of times I’ve moved house. I was also a careless child who did not value taking care of things so a lot were damaged too. I did find this R.L. Stine book at the back of my bookshelf though! I think I picked it up from a charity store for $1 or 50c like six years ago. It was published in 1986! That’s four years before I was born! I have a few other books from the 90s like cheesy horrors and I even found some Sweet Valley High books, but none of them beat this one!  I think I started reading it, but then never finished it – so nothing unusual.

The Archived by Victoria SchwabFind a book with a key on its cover.

The Archived by Victoria Schwab

Yeah, this one is kinda cheating. I had NO books on my shelves with a key. I looked everywhere. So I had to resort to my Goodreads shelf. It’s still technically a shelf, right? Anyway I haven’t read any of Victoria’s books (judge away!), but I really, really want to read all of them. I’ve heard endless good things about everything she’s wrote and the concept of this book seems so interesting. Hopefully I can get to one of them soon!

Rey Funko PopFind something on your shelves that isn’t a book.

My Scavenger Rey Funko Pop

I honestly feel like Rey is my daughter. She is my kick ass, space scavenger babe. I love her more than words can say. She is so important to me. Rey is my first and only Funko Pop, but I hope to change that! There are so many more that I want. Also, fun fact: until this year I HATED Star Wars, like I despised it. I had never watched or planned to watch a single movie. Then I saw Daisy Ridley and John Boyega all over my Tumblr dashboard and I may have developed a crush on both of them 🙈 so I watched The Force Awakens and then I fell into a Star Wars shaped hole and I don’t plan on ever crawling out of it.

Through the Zombie Glass by Gena ShowalterFind a book with an animal on the cover.

Through the Zombie Glass by Gena Showalter

Okay so it’s not the main feature, BUT THERE’S A RABBIT OKAY. It’s all I had 😓 So, I haven’t read this book or the first in the series. I did start reading the first book and was really enjoying it. I actually half finished it, but then I just stopped. How surprising! Like I said before if something is an Alice retelling then I’m going to read it. The covers for this series are all so gorgeous and I hope to finish it soon.

Born Wicked by Jessica SpotswoodFind a book with a girl on its cover.

Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood

Okay, so half the books on my shelf could have been used for this, but I LOVE THIS COVER SO MUCH. It’s so beautiful. Another one I haven’t read, but I will get there one day. I absolutely love witches and have ever since I was like 10 and watched Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Unfortunately my linen closest wasn’t a portal to another realm (believe me, I tried!). I’m convinced that I’m secretly a witch. Despite my love for everything witchy I haven’t actually read many books about them? This needs to change, stat.

Black Dahlia Avenger by Steve HodelFind a non-YA book.

Black Dahlia Avenger by Steve Hodel

I’ve mentioned before that I have a weird fascination with true crime so this is one of the books from my collection! The Black Dahlia Murder is one that’s interested me ever since I heard about it. I haven’t read this, but I’ve read and watched various thing about Hodel’s case against his father. I strongly believed and supported Hodel’s theory – until he also claimed his father was the Zodiac Killer and like every other unknown murderer out there. I still think it’s a possibility, but it’s definitely weakened my belief.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. RowlingFind a book with stars on its cover.

Harry Potter and the Philospher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

This book changed my life. I know that sounds so dramatic, but it’s honestly true. Harry Potter is what made me fall in love with reading, like really fall in love with it. It had such an impact on me. It’s also where and why I started my journey online. I owe so much of myself to this series. This edition is from 2001 which I know isn’t the earliest, but it’s the year I found the books and I’m so happy that this is still in my possession. It’s extremely battered and has pages dog-eared everywhere and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I don’t plan on replacing it.

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe HillFind a book with golden letters.

Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill

It’s kinda hard to see with my poor photagraphy skills, but this has golden letters – I promise! It’s also one of the few hardbacks I own. I found it at a random pop up book discount store. I haven’t read this one either. Oops. I did, once again, start it and then life got in the way and I put it down. I was enjoying it though. I really want to try and get into Adult fiction horror so I think this is where I’ll start! One of my best friends recommend this book to me which is why I bought it and it sounds super interesting and I’ve heard a ton of good things about Joe Hill. I’m excited to pick it back up!

This tag was so much fun!!! It’s actually made me want to do a bookshelf kinda tour. I don’t know though because I’m not the best at taking photos ect. and my bookshelf is mess. This tag can be a bit time consuming though so please feel free to skip it if you don’t want to do it! I think some of you have been tagged already, but just in case!!! I’m tagging a bunch of you because I want to stalk your book collections!!! 😂😂😂

    1. I have quite a few! I used to have A LOT more, but they didn’t survive all the times I moved house. They’re one of the first series I read and the reason why I love horror so much today. Yay! I’m pretty new to classics, but that is an all time favourite. Thank you 😀

      1. Me too! I love horror. I started with R.L. Stine before I progressed to Stephen King novels in the fifth or sixth grade. I don’t have any of my old Goosebumps books, but I wouldn’t mind reading them over. I was so hooked on them as a kid. Have you ever read Dracula? That’s a good one, if you’re getting into the classics.

        1. I can’t believe I haven’t read a Stephen King book because I grew up with his books and movies all around my house. I have had Carrie sitting on my shelf forever though so I’m hoping to get to that soon! I have an Illustrated edition of Dracula and I got 3/4 through it and really liked it but then just stopped? My attention span hates me, haha. I definitely plan on picking it up again though!

          1. I would definitely recommend reading Carrie, especially if you’ve already seen the movies. My personal favorite is Salem’s Lot. It’s about vampires, which I’m over at the point, but it’s nothing like what you’ve read in YA books. It’s so much better. I know what you mean. Lately, I have zero attention span when it comes to reading. I’ve been in such a slump after some of these ARCs I read and didn’t finish.

              1. If you start with any Stephen King book, Salem’s Lot would be the best one. The prose in that book alone is so good he pulls you right into that town. He might go on a page or two straight with narrative , but it’s probably some of the best I’ve ever read. It really is one of his best works. I’m starting Red Rising now. I’ve been told it’s a must read that will pull me right out of my slump. Fingers crossed. I can’t wait to see your review after you read your first Stephen King. I would recommend reading all the books they made movies for, because if you liked the movies, you will love the books. And The Shining book is different than the movie. That’s another good one.

  1. Thank you for the tag! I don’t think i’ll be able to find all of these on my shelf so I think I’ll include my ibooks and goodreads shelf (as you said.. its still a shelf 😁) So excited to do this! 😊

  2. Ohh, thanks so much for the tag Lauren. I feel like this is an excuse to show off my bookshelves but I may have to use my Goodreads shelves for one or two of them (I definitely agree Goodreads counts). Also I think I’m probably going to have to pick Alice in Wonderland for my classic as well. I’m not a big fan of classics so this is literally the only one I own 😀
Thanks again for the tag! 🙂

  3. I love this tag!!! Heart-Shaped Box sounds really good, I’d love to read more adult horror too and it would be great to know what you thought of this as a starter for getting into the genre 🙂

I love Rey Pop figures. I have one on my desk at work, next to Finn and Poe.
This Tag looks so fun. I’ll think about scheduling it for Next Monday. Thanks for tagging me!

Omg, the cover for The Archived is ridiculous! What in the world. 😂😂

The oldest book in my shelves is over 100 years old and falling apart. Haha

    What a fun post!

    1. Ah that’s so awesome! I really want to get Finn and Poe too so all my space children can be together. They’re definitely next on my list.

No worries! I’m super excited to see your post 😀

Haha, it is a bit :/ I like the key though 😂

      Whoa, that is so cool!!!

  5. I’m really glad you managed to find out who started this tag. I felt terrible for not mentioning the creator!

Zeroes has been on my wishlist for a while! It sounds super cool and I’ve heard great things about it.
I might offend someone here but the cover of The Archived looks so tacky it actually made me laugh out loud! I mean, that ghost face floating around … hahaha.

Everyone has Funko Pops! Argh I want one so bad! 😀 Also I watched the Star Wars movies when I was really young and was mainly confused (too much politics for a child I think xD) but then my brother made me watch the original trilogy again a few months ago and I loved it so much! I’m so in love with Luke, Leia and Han! I have to admit that I didn’t really like The Force Awakens though.

Ah your edition of HP is lovely! Fun fact: I had all of the HP books with the old covers except for the first one, which I didn’t own at all because I had borrowed it from my English teacher when I first read it and never bought it. Then I decided I wanted to complete my “collection” but because the new covers were out it was super difficult to find a matching edition of the first book without spending an excessive amount of money. I finally managed to find a matching edition for just a few pounds and it’s in surprisingly good shape. After all the trouble I went to, I can definitely see why you love yours haha!

I think it’s so interesting to see what people find on their shelves. Usually everyone mentions the same books in almost every single tag, so this one is really fascinating to me! It brings out some suprises. 🙂

    1. Aw, no, don’t feel bad!! I only found out because I wanted to watch some Booktubers do it and it came up in their videos!!

I’m excited to get to it 😀 LMAO, no, it’s okay. It is a bit :/ I like the key though 😂😂

They’re definitely a new obsession of mine. They’re quite pricey though (at least in Australia), so I’m definitely going to be buying them sparingly. I love the original trio SO much! I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the original movies, but I loved them as much as I loved TFA.

Thank you!! Ah that’s so awesome!! I’m glad you were able to find it 😀 My series, unfortunately, doesn’t match. It’s a mess of like 3 different styles and some are paperbacks and others are hardbacks and my copy of Order of the Phoenix’s spine is totally destroyed because I read it so many times. They all mean so much to me I could never replace them. I’ve thought about buying a new complete set for aesthetic purposes, but I don’t know because I’d still have my old ones proudly displayed on my shelf so!

Yes! I love it a lot 😀 That’s why I tagged a bunch of people. I love seeing what everyone has in their collections.

      1. Ah well you were lucky! I could only trace the tag back to a blog in a language I don’t understand. I gave up then. 😀
Yeah the key is nice I guess. 😀 By the way, how do you type that crying/laughing emoji? I feel like a suburban mom trying to figure out Facebook but it’s driving me crazy that I don’t know how to do it!
Yeah the price is the main reason why I don’t own any yet! I look at them and I think … I can buy one Funko Pop or two used books …
Well mine don’t match perfectly either. They all have sort of matching covers, but some are shiny and others are matte. But from far away they match. 😀 I wouldn’t buy a new set. You should stick to your well-loved copies, at least they tell a story. 🙂

        1. Haha, I would have done the same. It’s understandable!

I honestly feel like that all the time. I so can’t keep up with Internet culture anymore, haha. But when I’m not on my phone/Kindle I use this website: http://www.iemoji.com/ you just chose the emoji and copy and paste!

Yeah that’s how I see it too. I am thinking of treating myself to one soon with some birthday money, but then I’m also like “I could be buying books with this instead”.

          Yes, Exactly!
