BOOK TAG: The Secret Life of a Book Blogger

tsloabb

I was tagged to do this by the wonderful Beth @ Reading Every Night. Thank you so much, Beth! Make sure to check out her blog and read her post because it’s wonderful!

How long have you been a blogger?

Whilst I’m not new to the world of social media (I used to use Livejournal from 2004-2009 and I’ve had a Tumblr since 2009) I am quite brand new to Book Blogging, 2 weeks brand new to be exact. I did create this blog a year or so ago, but I didn’t use it properly. I only started taking it seriously 2 weeks ago. I was actually inspired to get back into reading by seeing all of Vivian’s bookstagram posts and reading her reviews and I wanted a place to compile all my bookish thoughts and feelings.

At what point do you think you will stop?

I’m not sure! I’m having a lot of fun right now and I really want to make my blog grow even more and improve it. I don’t plan on stopping any time soon.

What is the best thing?

The people! I am so overwhelmed at how lovely and welcoming everyone is. I’ve never experience anything like it before. I just want to thank everyone every time I make a post.

What is the worst thing? What do you do to make it okay?

I’m a procrastinator and a worrier with no attention span so I always get concerned that my posts are annoying or that I don’t post enough/post too much. I also don’t want my blog to just be Memes, but my attention span makes it hard for me to read and review books super frequently. I’m trying to de-stress though and remind myself that this is my blog and that as long as I enjoy the posts I’m putting up everything else is secondary. Also this isn’t really something that affects my blogging, but I wish I was able to take pretty bookstagram photos! Unfortunately, photography is not my strong point.

How long does it take to find/create pictures to use?

Not too long. I normally use Goodreads for covers or Google if the Goodreads cover quality is a bit dodgy. I use Photoshop and have templates saved so I just have to make a few quick changes and I’m done. Everything else I use Google for because it’s a real life saver.

Who’s your book crush?

Currently, it’s Vida from The Darkest Minds trilogy by Alexandra Bracken. What a babe. I love her so much. She’s so strong and she had so much character development. I’m legit heart eyes over her.

What author would you like to have on your blog?

Oh man! So many! None of them would ever happen, but I would love to have R.L. Stine or J.K. Rowling since they’re the authors who got me into reading. It would also be cool to have Alexandra Bracken, Danielle Vega and Rick Riordan! There’s so many questions I would love to ask all of them and see what their favourite things are what inspires them!

What do you wear when you write your blog?

Mostly it’s my pyjamas! Super stylish, I know 😉 Unless I’ve gotten home from being out then it’s whatever I decided to wear, which really isn’t that stylish either.

How long does it take you to prepare?

Not too long. I spend the most time on reviews. They take me anywhere from half an hour to over an hour because I really want them to translate well and sometimes I have a hard time getting the words from my head to my blog. Wrap up posts take a while too because I need to find everything. WoW posts are the quickest and Book Tags/TTTs fall in between Reviews/STS

How do you feel about the book blogger community/culture?

I mentioned this above so I won’t repeat it too much, but I love it a lot and it’s honestly one of the best communities I’ve been a part of.

What do you think one should do to have a successful blog?

I’m only new so I don’t know if I have the right to answer this, but I’ll try and add some general things that I feel are important. Be yourself and be happy with what you post. Try not to worry about stats too much, I know they’re important but I don’t think you should let them influence what you post or your blog may not feel as genuine. Interact with other bloggers and your followers and make a genuine effort to learn or be interested in what they post about. Try to comment on/like their posts as much as you can. When you participate in Weekly Memes try and add your thoughts and feelings instead of just a basic list so it can create a kind of discussion.

Who do you tag?

Vivian @ Inked in Pages
Arvenig
Megan @ Pitch Black Sky
Kai @ Black Cat Kai
Beth @ Betwixt These Pages

Only if you want to of course! And if you’ve already done it, apologies ❤

  1. I totally understand where you’re coming from with having a short attention span and it being hard to post reviews frequently. I have the exact same problem. I end up posting probably about 1 a week but then I see some blogs posting reviews every 2 or 3 days and it makes me feel like I don’t read fast enough. 😛

  2. VIDA, YES! I loved her so much when I read that series and no one seems to ever mention her… And I have to say, being in a photography class at school this semester has drastically improved my book photography/editing–not that I have shared much yet. Who knew there was actually stuff to learn? But the book blogging community really is one of the most welcoming, sweetest little worlds out there on the internet, and I’m glad you’re in it now, too!

    1. I’m so glad someone else is with me on the Vida love! She is such an amazing character. I spent the entire series so worried that something would happen to her. I love her so much.

Ooh that’s awesome! I did a little photography in high school but that was forever ago and we mostly focused on developing film.

It really is! I’m overwhelmed every day by how lovely everyone is. It’s so great! ❤

  3. Oh man, I hope I’m able to come up with good answers like you did.

I am so behind on my tags & reading right now, but I will let you know as soon as I finally post them!! 😀

  4. I loved reading your answers for this tag! And I’m exactly the same, I procrastinate a lot and worry that my posts are annoying or that I post too much, but I’ve certainly enjoyed reading everything you’ve posting since I started following you!

  5. Gah, I have a short attention span, too. If a book didn’t completely hook me in, then it takes me forever to get through it. I’m a newbie blogger, too, and I have the same worries you do! Like you said, I just need to keep telling myself it’s my blog and I need to post what I enjoy!

    1. Ahh, it’s the worst right! I get distracted so easily. It’s why I normally read 3-5 books at once. Yes! I’m always worried that I don’t read fast enough and post too many filler things, but I’m having fun so that’s the main thing 😀
