This week’s theme: Ten Books I love but haven’t talked about enough.
I’m only new to blogging so there’s quite a few books I love that I haven’t talked about. I know I mention Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and horror a lot so I’m going to try and stay away from those genres. Actually nearly all the books in this list are contemporary which is rare for me. I just felt like all the dystopian/sci-fi/fantasies I love are books people talk about all the time and I wanted to try and mention some books I don’t see around all that often. The only order this is in is alphabetical because I can’t deal with that kind of pressure.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher – This book resonated with me so much. I felt so connected to Hannah. I read this book over five years ago and I still think about it.
Shift by Em Bailey – This is honestly one of my favourite books ever. It had a plot twist that I did not see coming whatsoever and it messed me up. It felt really psychological at times. I LOVE IT.
Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway – This is so funny and cute and oh my god. I actually ordered it from Book Depository and it took about a month to get here, but it was so worth it.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky – I know this book has a lot of mixed reviews, but I love it. It might be because I relate to Charlie a lot. This book made me cry and it has some of my favourite quotes ever. Also, the movie is perfect.
Stolen by Lucy Christopher – THIS BOOK! Oh my god. I thought Lucy did a great job of portraying Stockholm Syndrome. It was so intense. I cried. I also read it on a bus in the middle of nowhere, in Australia, and it was super creepy.
Plush by Kate Crash – Okay. This book has a ton of bad reviews on Goodreads, but I don’t care. Is it trash? Yes, but in the BEST way. It’s just really dark and gritty and fucked up. And I love that. Don’t judge me. It’s also an awesome movie.
Beautiful Malice by Rebeca James – Another one of my all time favourite books. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I cried a lot.
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart – Again I know this had mixed reviews, but I loved it. It helped get me out of a reading slump and I stayed up all night because I couldn’t pt it down. I thought it was so haunting and poetic and I didn’t even care that it was predictable. Oh and guess what? I CRIED.
Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion – The only book on this list that isn’t Contemporary. I thought this was so incredibly original. I loved the concept so much. I CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL.
Crush by Richard Siken – This book – along with Sylvia Plath (but I’m trying to stay away from popular books so it’s why I chose to talk about Crush) – is what got me interested in poetry. It was so so beautiful. I didn’t even relate to any of the poems. It was just ugh. I loved it.
I realised that all these books made me cry and that my favourite books in general are ones where I’ve cried

We Were Liars was on my list as well! I listened to the audiobook and really fell in love with it. It’s such a unique story. Great list!

Stolen was such a great read! I’ve always wanted to read something like that. She did such a great job with Stockholm Syndrome, I even started feeling bad for homeboy, even though I know he is wrong! Great Top Ten! 😀

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of my all time favourite books! ❤ I just adored this book and I relate to Charlie as well (and yes, I did cry as well). The movie is beautiful as well. 😀 Warm Bodies is also on my list – this book is really unique and I'm also exited about the sequel.

I loved it so much! It was so beautiful. I really need to re-read it. Warm Bodies is great too! It’s such an original concept.

OOh nice! The only one I know is Warm Bodies! I really liked that one as well! Can’t wait for the next book to come out! I thought he said it was later this year, but I can’t be sure!

It was such an original and unique take on the Zombie genre. I loved it! Goodreads has the release date slated as Feb 2017, but that’s waaay too far away so I hope it’s a lot sooner haha.

I loved Audrey, Wait! It was such a fun read. I wasn’t all too into Stolen. Perhaps I just read it at the wrong time. I did like her portrayal of Stockholm Syndrome though!

Ahh yay, someone who knows that book! It was so cute!! I think it’s one of those books that people either loved or couldn’t get into! Her portrayal was excellent though. I was so worried it was just going be this awful romance because of the tropes in YA but I was so glad when it was extremely realistic.

Great picks for this week. The only one I have read is Warm Bodies, which I will admit I only picked up because the movie was being released soon, but I loved it and I cannot wait for the sequel either. It feels like it’s been a really long time coming!
Also I’ve heard some great things about We Were Liars, I may have to add it to my to-read list.

Thank you 🙂 That’s actually the reason why I picked it up too. I saw a trailer for the movie and I really like to try and read the book before I see the movie and I fell in love with it. It’s such a unique concept. Ahh same! Goodreads has it slated as 2017 which is way too far away haha. I loved We Were Liars. Some people think it’s overhyped, but I don’t know. I just couldn’t put it down. If you read it I hope you enjoy!!

It’s the reason I pick a few books, I need to read Miss Peregrine’s before the film comes out this year, I saw the trailer and it looks amazing! But 2017 that so long, especially when you consider how long ago Warm Bodies came out as well. I’ll definitely need to re-read that one before starting the sequel 🙂
I’ve only seen good reviews for it, it’s one of the reasons I’ve added it to my to-read list. I hope I enjoy it to, I’m sure I will though 🙂

Miss Peregrine’s is another one that I loved! It takes a while to get used to the writing style, but I thought it was really unique and I love the use of all the old photos. Ahh I know! I actually didn’t think it was happening because there was nothing about it for a couple years and then I saw it had been updated on Goodreads.

I’ve seen so many good reviews for it that I had to put it on my to-read list! And yeah, I’ve seen some of the photos, it seems like a really unique way to tell the story.
Here’s hoping it will be released in 2017 then and not pushed back even more!

OH MY GOD SOMEONE ELSE KNOWS ABOUT THAT BOOK? I AM FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOW HAHA It was so insane. I loved it so much. I need to read it again. If you liked Beautiful Malice then I definitely recommend checking out Shift. It is Australian so I don’t know how easy it’d be to get a copy of, but they have so many of the same elements.

I actually read it (Beautiful Malice) as part of a goodreads group challenge. One of the prompts was to read two books with matching covers, so I picked that one and Chain Letter by Christopher Pike! I was pleasantly surprised by Beautiful Malice–so intense and epic!

That’s so cool!! I honestly didn’t know many people would have known about it because it’s Australian. I picked it up because of the cover and then I read the blurb and I was like “yep this book is 100% for me”.

Bahahaha I love when I pick up a book and just KNOW–that’s such an awesome feeling, I think! I looked up Shift, but unfortunately it isn’t currently available on Kindle! I put it on my “want to read” list though on Goodreads; hopefully one day I’ll get the chance to pick it up!

I love The Perks of Being a Wallflower! That’s one of my favorites. I’ve been wanting to read Stolen for years now but haven’t gotten around to it. It sounds really intense and dark though so it should be right up my alley. Awesome list!

SAME!! I heard about a fair while ago and then nothing ever happened so I figured it wasn’t going ahead but then a few months ago on Goodreads I saw it had been updated with actual information and I was so excited 😊

I had Perks of Being a Wallflower on my list too. The film was also amazing and I think it really helped that the writer of the book also wrote and directed the film. Great list.

Yay! Yes! I feel like whenever the writers actually have a say in the making of the film it always comes across so much better and the Perks movie was done beautifully. I’ve really gotta give it a rewatch, but I need to be in the right mood because it makes me cry so much haha.

Did not like Thirteen Reasons why OMG, YES to Crush — Richard Siken writes so, so beautifully and yeah, I don’t really relate as well but the phrases he comes up with are seriously gold. ❤

ME TOO. I don’t see it often (or at all, actually) around the book community, but that’s natural I think because people typically read prose here. Siken’s definitely one of my favourite poets, though. ❤
